Disaster strikes Eagles

Disaster does not begin to describe this.

When have the Eagles ever come up so inept in a big spot?

And when has it ever been so agonizingly close? The Eagles' season effectively ended with Reggie Brown catching a pass that was less than a foot from the goal line as time expired. It would have tied the game. It didn't. Replay confirmed that it didn't. Eagles lose.

After the Tampa Bay Bucs lost at home to San Diego, the Eagles held their destiny in their hands. They held it for about 3 hours. Then they dropped it, stepped on it, smashed it completely and ground the pieces into dust. That is what they did in losing to the Washington Redskins, 10-3.

They forgot how to play, it seems, on offense. They forgot everything that happened in the past three weeks of victories. They forgot to convert on third down. They forgot to run the ball for a loooong stretch of the second half. The quarterback, Donovan McNabb, was ordinary at best. And then there were the big plays that were not made. Here are three: a midfield interception dropped by Asante Samuel that would have flipped the field in the fourth quarter, and then two loooong passes that DeSean Jackson dropped near the end, the second one -- admittedly a tough grab -- in the end zone with about a minute to go.

The truth is, the Eagles got what they deserved yesterday against a reeling Redskins team that would have rolled over and died if the Eagles had smacked them early. That's just the reality. But the Eagles let them hang around and then they couldn't generate any significant offense the rest of the way.

They could have been a contender.

They were, for about 3 hours.

Then they dropped their dream. And now only the mathematicians think the Eagles are still alive in the NFC wildcard playoff picture.

a blind man could see this offence isn't well coached...In tight spots they have never been able to do what the great teams seem to do...and i did mean offence.

Simply inept across the board, except for the Defense. Been saying it since the Chicago loss, the team as a whole can't put it all together at the same time. At least not consistently. McNabb played decent once he gave the winning score to Washington. Reid of course got away from the run once again, except for the last drive when he started with a run. Reid is a complete waste.

I feel bad for Dawkins and the D. They showed up to play. Too bad the offense didn't.

you don't need much more proof that the play calling, and lack of intensity and urgency from Andy Reid and Morningwhig is failing. McNabb has looked real good for most of the year. you can't blame him for dropped passes or the plays called.stop throwing McNabb under the bus. he has been good to and for Philly.

lonewolf, what makes you think your boy KK is any good? i'm sure you are one of the legions of idiots who was calling for feeley before too....how did that work out for ya buddy? be careful what you wish for. it's awfully easy and ignorant to blame mcnabb for today's loss, but it was a team loss. and it starts with reid and his refusal to run the ball despite the banged-up WR core and defense we were facing. and by the way, it wasn't mcnabb's fault we wasted that timeout. it was our useless tight end lj lining up on the wrong side.

This will be another season of what-ifs...alas, it looks again like no one who gets into the post-season from the NFC is a World-beater, and had the Birds gotten in, they may actually have made some noise. Completely shocked at the apparent lack of urgency with this football team. This was a must-win, and the offense acted like it was pre-season. Kudos to the defense for showing up, anyway...If I were Brian Dawkins, I would ask to take a separate bus home, so as not to catch whatever intestinal disease is afflicting the offense. I'm ashamed...

He can't catch it FOR them. But those flip passes really do have to go.

Did they run the ball at all in the second half of the game? With all the passing they did, they set the Redskins up for screens and Westbrook runs but no, Pass Pass Pass, when you can see the McNabb was struggling!! Buh-Bye...

Jim Zorn called himself the worst coach in the league last week. What does that make Andy Reid? I'm looking forward to next fall's Coors commercial. When fans complain that their beer is worn, Andy says, "I should have done a better job of putting it in a better position."

I agree that Reid is a waste and should go. he will never change and cannot see that other teams have figured his scheme out.
