Disaster does not begin to describe this.
When have the Eagles ever come up so inept in a big spot?
And when has it ever been so agonizingly close? The Eagles' season effectively ended with Reggie Brown catching a pass that was less than a foot from the goal line as time expired. It would have tied the game. It didn't. Replay confirmed that it didn't. Eagles lose.
After the Tampa Bay Bucs lost at home to San Diego, the Eagles held their destiny in their hands. They held it for about 3 hours. Then they dropped it, stepped on it, smashed it completely and ground the pieces into dust. That is what they did in losing to the Washington Redskins, 10-3.
They forgot how to play, it seems, on offense. They forgot everything that happened in the past three weeks of victories. They forgot to convert on third down. They forgot to run the ball for a loooong stretch of the second half. The quarterback, Donovan McNabb, was ordinary at best. And then there were the big plays that were not made. Here are three: a midfield interception dropped by Asante Samuel that would have flipped the field in the fourth quarter, and then two loooong passes that DeSean Jackson dropped near the end, the second one -- admittedly a tough grab -- in the end zone with about a minute to go.
The truth is, the Eagles got what they deserved yesterday against a reeling Redskins team that would have rolled over and died if the Eagles had smacked them early. That's just the reality. But the Eagles let them hang around and then they couldn't generate any significant offense the rest of the way.
They could have been a contender.
They were, for about 3 hours.
Then they dropped their dream. And now only the mathematicians think the Eagles are still alive in the NFC wildcard playoff picture.
I predicted this one with pin point accuracy. The pressure was back on today and this bunch shriveled as only they know how. Once again, they began a final drive with only one timeout remaining. Once again, McNabb throws short of either the first down marker or the goal line with no room for error. Once again, they come up short. mikerainey82

Eagles- Chhhhooookkkkkeeee- Have fun loser Philly fans. Back to the same old, same old. The Phillies winning was a fluke. phillysucks999
16 runs, 46 passes, official numbers. Get rid of Reid. foghelmut
"GOOD BY REID AND THE WORST PLAY CALLING SINCE KOTITE" MCNABB GREAT CHOKE JOB AGAIN! I"M SO TIRED OF THESE MORONS THAT SAY THAT REID AND MCNABB ARE THE BEST THING FOR PHILLY TO WIN A SUPER BOWL! ITS BEEN 10 YEARS 1 APPEARANCE AND A SUPER CHOKE JOB! losteagle
Comment removed.- Gosh, could this loss today have something to do with all the PASSING PLAYS Andy called? Yes, Westbrook is one giant bruise. But so is veryone else at this point in the season. Why doesn't Reid throw away that fershlugginer chart and just announce that he will never call another running play again - ever? Everyone one in that stadium (not to mention everyone else on planet Earth) could tell that Andy wanted to throw on first down - even when the Eags were ON THEIR ON OWN 3 YARD LINE! Sorry for the flame job here but Andy is so stubborn he makes Captain Ahab look like wishy-washy Charlie Brown. I thought I had seen the worst of Andy Reid, but I'm stunned. Honestly, I'm just paralyzed.
McNabb did not have a good game, but 8 dropped passes, 2 could have been touchdowns, don't blame McNabb, and the defense should have had 3 interceptions. I am sick of you clowns blaming McNabb and Reid, you have to ccatch the ball!! Hey CR, you'll be watching next week. sstoys2

Can we finally be done with McNabb now? Please. I'm tired of watching him choke year after year in big games. Stop the excuses. Enough already. Woodmike

nonchalant! No sense of urgency. That is what defines our coach and our QB. If one of them had 1/4 of the heart that Jeff Garcia has we would have something. Get rid of Reid, Good-bye to McNabb. Go for Cassel - Kolb is no the answer. Kudos to the defense - awesome unit. Bring in Spagnula from the Giants as head coach. mhall3268
But wait. They still have a chance. Tampa can choke and the Bears can lose one and Minnesota can lose I think, and the Eagles can beat the Boys. No problem. McNabb is still an All-Pro and Reid has more wins than any coach in Eagles history. Yessiree bub, we can still go all the way. No way Reid and Donovan should go. I still think they'll win it all this year, and yes, next year too. E-A-G-L-E-S. Eagles !! jerrynaab
Comment removed.- ugh. 16 rushes. 46 pass attempts. Just keep firing, Andy. Please, Mr. Lurie, fire this clueless coach. Get someone who will adapt. Manage the clock. Coach urgency. Pick players that want to win at least enough that they're not joking and smiling moments after an entire year's effort is killed (a la Reggie whiner Brown just after he didn't get in the endzone. Seeing him smiling and joking with his Redskins buddy walking off the field after that debacle is a disgrace). Does anyone on this team give a s---? raoool
