Black death for Eagles

POSTED: Sunday, October 18, 2009, 7:10 PM

It was a nightmare in the Black Hole. The Eagles were beaten and they were beaten up by the Oakland Raiders, 13-9. They are now 3-2 and they are entirely open to questioning -- about just about everything.

Yes, it was that bad.

It is hard to believe that the simple loss of left tackle Jason Peters could lead to such a terrible tumbling of the dominoes for the Eagles, but that is all of the available evidence at this point. Peter went down with a knee injury in the first quarter and was replaced by King Dunlap. The Eagles were already leaky up front and it became a flood after that. It was fair in the middle of the second quarter to wonder if McNabb was going to finish the game on his feet. By the end, he was sacked six times.

But there were questions everywhere.

David Akers missed two field goals, of 43 and 47 yards.

Jeremiah Trotter, trying to make a comeback at middle linebacker after being out of the game for more than a year, was tortured and abused on an 86-yard touchdown to Raiders tight end Zach Miller. And he was beaten on a 12-yard pass to Gary Russell at the 2-minute warning, a huge play.

McNabb, killed by the pressure, still probably held the ball too long a couple of times -- but, then again, he was desperate to make some kind of play, any kind of play, just to try to get this thing jump-started.

Oh, and his receivers weren’t open much all day.

And the defense gave up a raft of the kind of plays that people worried about all season, plays by the tight end and the running backs, plays in the middle of the field.

Other than that, it was a nice trip.

Andy Reid and Donovon McNabb you do this EVERY year. You lose a game that you shoundn't have. We are 3-2, who have we beaten? 8-8 Eagles.

e EAGLES got beat on every single aspect of the game: Offense, Defense and Special Teams. You MUST blame this one on the head coach. This team is either VERY bad or it was never prepared well for the Raiders. What a DISGRACE!!!!

Note to Eagle owner: 1. You are not the gold standard. 2. Where are the multiple Super Bowl rings? 3. You don't have the best players in the league. 4. Time is up for this group of players and coaches they had their chance now let's start rebuilding.

Sadly, this game confirms what Reid has said all along: the game is won entirely in the trenches. Our offensive line didn't exist today. Worst game in the Reid era? I'm not sure, but definitely the worst offensive line performance over that stretch.

They all sucked and Rich Trotter did stink on the two plays you mentioned in your article. That being said he was no worse than the entire defense (except cole). Fire the entire staff and get Cowher in here. Our tacklers look scared McNabb looks slow and the line sucks. NOT THIS YEAR EAGLES

Obviously they lost this one on their own but the officiating was horrible. I love Richard Seymour in the first half coming across the line before the ball and the terrible announcing ignoring it. Also love the roughing the kicker miss. And a few ignored horse collars.

I am seriously questioning ever wasting my time and sanity waching this team again. Total joke all around. They just lost to a team that would lose to most top-25 college teams.

Maybe they all ate something bad on the flight to Oakland? Can't think of much else to explain that one today. Better question, can it be fixed for the next 3 weeks with the 'Skins, Giants, Cowboys up next. Jeez...

I knew people were going to over react...look, it was a terrible game, not just by McNabb but the whole team. The running game didnt get them anywhere, there were 8 dropped passes, the line couldnt block and Acres shanked a couple kicks. The defense did a decent job but were tortured by screen passes and the TE Keller. It was a bad game all around. They will watch the tap learn from the mistakes and rebound. This is a good team and its not even half way through the season. Lets just hope we can get Peters back and we dont lose him for the season.
