Another Miracle at the Meadowlands
Eagles 38, Giants 31
Another Miracle at the Meadowlands
Rich Hofmann, Daily News Sports Columnist
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- They will tell stories about this one for as long as they tell stories about the Eagles. Trailing by 24-3 at halftime, looking for all the world like a beaten team in the biggest game of the season against the New York Giants, the Eagles came all the way back to tie it at 31-31 with 1 minute, 16 seconds left in regulation time.
And then it happened.
DeSean Jackson, after fumbling the final punt of the game, picked it up and returned the ball 65 yards for the stunning, astounding, Westbrookesque, game-winning touchdown for the Eagles.
They will talk about it forever, another miracle at the Meadowlands.
Eagles 38, Giants 31.
Michael Vick willed them down the field in the fourth quarter. There is no other way to describe it. Down by 24-3 at the half, the Eagles kept plugging and the Giants fell into a shell of contentment. With 7:27 left, a juggling 65-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brent Celek cut the deficit to 31-17. Then, after Riley Cooper recovered a David Akers onsides kick, Vick pretty much willed the ball down the field by himself, scoring on a 4-yard quarterback draw with 5:28 remaining that cut it to 31-24.
Then, scrambling with impunity to set them up, Vick hit Jeremy Maclin with a 13-yard touchdown pass with 1:16 left to make it 31-31. The Eagles’ defense then held, forcing the final punt.
Then, it happened.
I am now waiting for someone to say something negative about such a win. This is a Great Time to be a Philly Fan. Who knows how far we will go but this is one heck of a ride. Go Eagles Overbrook Runner
Has to be one of if not the greatest comeback victory in philly history hatchet
Really, better than beating them 35-3. This one lives on in infamy for "big blue.'' The young Eagles are by far the better team, but did their best to give this one away. Until the end... eagle1971

Wow, unbelievable. hardypardy- what now haters? what now? one of the greatest eagles game ever!!!! mike vick and desean jackson are now legendary
UnVickingBelievable boomer64
Miracle in the Meadowlands 2 - for sure!
Where are all those Giants fans that were gloating here earlier? Where did you go, guys? Stoshie
Amazing...Vick is remarkable. When the time came to throw away the playbook he put on his Superman cape and saved this team. Incredible! stockman1
Only negative comments will come from Giants fans. Is this a team of destiny?
bostoneaglesfan
Amazing. croozn
I can't believe was I just saw. Birds better pay Vick whatever that guy wants. Awsome comeback!! juicemonkey
Another festivus miracle! ~ someone had to say it. Tim R- Wow! This offense is too explosive to count out. When all seemed lost the big playmakers made it happen and the defense just managed to hold. Best win of the year! Nezzen
I had turned to the Ravens-Saints game until I saw 31-24. An absolutely amazing win! Lost in the offensive show was Chaney, who had 16 tackles, including 12 solos, in his first start. moraviacats
A big 10-4 to all Eagles & their fans. I think character is something you learn by not giving up. All the adversity, the lopsided score at the half, the injuries, the blown calls...and in the end none of that mattered. My compliments to all, especially the team. This is historical. rad205
Rebuilding year? Nope! Eagles showed heart and poise, while scoring 28 unanswered points with eight minutes left to beat New York! Philadelphia has basically wrapped up the NFC EAST with 1 win in its fianlly two games and or, 1 NY loss. DeShaun Jackson ended this division rivalry with a miracle punt return for a TD as time expired. Can you say 28 unanswered points and never say die! Go Birds!!!

Surreal...unreal...
4Q Michael Vick took his game to a new level.
DeSean...nice tight-rope walk near the end zone line. The man knows theatrics!
2stepbay
Pay Mike Vick Cliff Lee money right now!!! Facts before ignorance
The legend of Michael Vick grows....virtuoso DonovanMcNabb
Too bad DeSean had to be a showboating idiot. sspindle- He was just running sideways until the clock showed 0:00.
GoodWorks
Great win!!!
Will Matt Dodge have a pink slip waiting for him at his locker after the game? Crystal Ball
What was DeSean doing before he scored? I'll take the win though!! Mezike23- I have the feeling he might've been making sure there was no time left on the clock/showboating.
words cant do justice to what we just saw... Theo1980- What a miracle it was!!! I never felt this confident with Mcscrub at Q-back! Even after the beating Vick took all day, he still put up huge rushing numbers, and even though Desean has been a punk lately, he deserves lots of credit for that awesome return! GO EAGLES>>>>> dexter55
- Mac5 would have never gotten this team up like Mike Vick just did. Mac5 would've mailed this game in as a loss before halftime. The legend of Vick continues to grow and if he is to win a Super Bowl this year, the legend will be greater than any folk hero in American history.
papabear702
You have to love the Eagles now. Great early christmas gift. gauwow
First Cliff Lee and now THIS! I almost feel bad for NY sports fans. Almost. iacl16
The new Meadowlands needed a new miracle. Glad I didn't listen to Les Bowen and give up in the third quarter. brs50
Jeezuz, and I'm stuck in North Carolina having to watch an awful Panthers/Cards game while you guys get to watch a game for the ages. Thank God for the NFL Network replay games. I don't know any details but I had a feeling the Eagles had a miracle in them today. What an offense. tpizza
Amazing! I thought I was going to have a stroke when Jackson was running parallel to the goal line with the ball in one hand. Still, this was one for the ages. Hame of Famer- Beautiful! wylies99
M@M III - Herm, Westbrook, DeSean!!! uncle meat
down by 21 with 7 minutes left, no way would they come back, but this week in Philly sports is unbelievable: Lee signs, sixers winning, flyers in first!!!! pogiepop
What a Game Eagles. I am in a Heck of a position Chilladelphia
This has to be the clutch play of the year in the league: http://cosbysweaters.com/2010/12/19/video-desean-jacksons-last-second-heroics/ TheDR- And CharlieGarner is still saying this team will go no where with Reid as head coach.
- Of course he will. All the way until Reid wins the Super Bowl. It's like the fans who say Charlie Manuel is a bad coach or dumb. Some people will never be satisfied.
papabear702 - I was cursing Reid for not throwing that challenge flag and was about to turn off the tv when the Giants went up again by 21... then something very interesting happened. Holy Cuss!!! And what's up with Desean running along the goal line like that??? This was fantastic!!!
If anyone say anything negative about Jackson, TD delay at the end, they need to know he was making sure the time hit ZERO. Good thinking. I bet haters had their mouth full of smack to post but as soon as the clock hit zero. No Words. Best Eagles game of the year. gauwow
Turned this one off after Andy pocketed the red flag. Then the tickers kept showing the gap closing so I went back in time to see the game tying score. Then the punt return. Let's just call it "The Return". I am loving this young team and the fight in them. Go EAGLES! Eagle1Vegas- For all you Vick haters out there...STFU elijah29
Despite the Giants, despite Reid's ineptness...Go Eagles!! anbasha
I was thinking the same thing. It was clearly a down by contact. Giants would have never gotten that 31 pts that early. But I can forget it now since we took the win and I'll take the moment I am feeling now because my i'm still pumped up on this game. gauwow
All of you Eagle haters, bite it...great comeback, put a fork in the Giants, they are crispy done!!HAHA BirdinParadise
The difference between this miracle at the Meadowlands and the original is that the original was an inxplicable failure of the Giants to take a knee when they had the game down to the last play and led by less than seven points. This time, the Eagles had to pull off a quick TD bomb to Celek, an onside kick recovery, a TD drive after that, then a defensive hold, then a long drive to tie, then another defensive hold, and finally a miracle PR to avoid OT. rhawnhurster
WOW!!!!!! What a win! Wow! Still in shock and in tears.... WOW!!!! Between the Lee signing and this, I am going to my doctor.... Kevin Moore- Wow so glad I was too tired to go rake leaves I would've missed this!!
Rebuilding year? Nope! Eagles showed heart and poise, while scoring 28 unanswered points with eight minutes left to beat New York, in NJ. Philadelphia has basically wrapped up the NFC EAST with needing 1 win in its final two games and or, 1... NY loss. DeShaun Jackson ended this dramatic division rivalry game with a miracle punt return for a TD as time expired. Can you say "28 unanswered points and a never say die team!" Go Birds, as they enter the playoffs!!!

Greetings from South Florida where Mike Vick has made for a very merry Christmas. What a team, no matter what happens going forward. They showed Philly grit and heart on that field today. Even sweeter that it was against the MF Giants. PhillyRules
Let's hear the naysayers come on about Andy Reid. The onside kick was the mark of a brilliantly coached team--and one that knows how to execute! gxel
I loved the the look on Coughlin's squirrelly face hoverer
As a life long Va Tech fan & follower of MV7 since this high school days - Philly fans the "best is yet to come". Embrace Mike, forgive his past & focus on the future. Mike is a winner & your city is lucky to enjoy his skills. He is a winner !!!! billr10812- i will eat crow, i wrote them off after the first half, all you have to say is hats off to the iggles! xlGmanlx
- MV7 is the man and is showing what he can do with great teammates
Great game, great win. HOWEVER... lost in it all because they won, was Reid again not knowing when to throw the red flag, and I'm talking about the DJack play. If they never came back, Reid would be getting grilled right now about that, but the team came back and saved his bacon. watsonmr
I dont know what the future holds.... But i do know one thing... these young Eagles grew up today and won in spite of Andy's usual antics. They MUST be special how else can you explain it? eagle_z- Man...Philly rolled NYC this week. First Cliff Lee, then the Eagles steal the G-Men's lunch...How ya like them Apples??? The Monk
This team reminds me of the 2008 Phillies. Even when you write them off as losing, you know you can't turn them off because there is always a chance. I'll admit that I turned the game off but was recording on DVR so I went back and picked up where I left off when I saw it was 31-24. samtheman
I didnt think they would win it.....its time to pay Vick and Jackson. NC Eagle Fan
Charliegarner said the game was over and had been over at 24-10. Wow, love to watch people eat their own words. tpizza- Oh my heart! I can't breathe. I can't breathe!! EAGLES RULE!!!
- Oh my heart! I can't breathe. I can't breathe!! EAGLES RULE!!!
- Wowzers. Just one complaint: Even though the D stepped up big in the 4th quarter and played generally OK the rest of the game....they shouldn't have let it get to 24 points in the first half. Just saying. Though it sort of proves Vick can carry them on Offense (they played the number 2 defense in the NFL, and won in the last seconds), so perhaps he can take it all the way.
Now I'm just excited for the last two games this year!
i thought coughlin was going to beat up his punter right there on the field
franknbeans- That ending was KaRazy! DJax was killing me. I thought he was gonna start hot-dogging again, but then I realized he was running out the clock.
GO EAGLES!!
Amazing win! Vick and DJax need the money as soon as the team can! Chaney played great in his first start. What a gutzy performance! I am beside myself. Go Eagles!! FlaGeorge- If Kolb were playing, we would have won by 30. No doubt! If we were playing the Kensington Titans, we would have won by 30.
- I was at the game and left early. It was a game we didn't deserve to win. Happy with the win, but no fan on the planet can say we played a first good three quarters except homers. Nova
Unbelievable! Give Vick and Desean their money now!! JRD11
I knew Vick could carry the team but this...I never expected. I even lost faith by the 3rd qtr, especially after Reid failed to throw the challenge flag twice when he should've. Fred Scuttle
thank you manningham. that ridiculous fumble on the sidelines is what started this whole thing. that was it Nichols1088
Well, speed kills. To be perfectly honest, after a lifetime spent following the Eagles' powerful defense,I had never looked to see a day when the Eagles could or would rely so heavily upon their offensive unit. Heartening. -30- Tucci78- Hey Stoshie! That would be Miracle at the Meadowlands 3. ngfs66
Another miracle!!! First Cliff Lee and now this!! Philadelphia is THE CITY! bossrjc
Unbelievable......Desean Jackson, Andy Reid owes you BIG TIME!! Thank you for the intelligent play and saving Andy from another possible clock blunder at the end of the game. flyerrod
Merry Christmas everyone......you got one of your gifts today!!!!!!!Kudos to the entire team. The team feeds off of Michael...when he turns it on, they come to life.........that was amazing...,Go EAGLES!!!!! philligrl
The fastest guy on the field?....Tom Coughlan running out to reprimand his punter!!!! Edae
wow!! Yogi was right... it ain't over til it's over, and it was over, over there!! fingerskevin
What will Vick be like next year with one year's experience working with Andy, Marty, and the first team talent. We are seeing the coming together of something special. The Man actually took over the game. The Eagles believe in him there's no doubt. After the touchdown you begin to see a look of concern on the Giants faces. They knew was was coming. The Giants were as stun by Vick and the Eagles as the rest of the Nation watching. They knew what to expect and played to defend and couldn't avoid the avalanch.

The Miracle of the (New) Meadowlands - nice way to inaugurate their new stadium AnObserver
OMGGGGGG!!! What an incredible game for the ages!!! In NYC, for the Divisaion lead, after having beat them 5 times in a row previously, down 24-3, then down 31-10.... AGAINST THE GIANTS.....UNBELIEVABLE!!!! joedoc3
Not to take anything at all away from Jackson's punt return but how about the block he received from Avant. I think DeOssie had a shot at tackling or at least slowing Jackson down - until he was absolutely decked by Avant. fen4134
OMGGGGGG!!! What an incredible game for the ages!!! In NYC, for the Division lead, after having beat them 5 times in a row previously, down 24-3, then down 31-10.... AGAINST THE GIANTS.....UNBELIEVABLE!!!! joedoc3
That was incredible. I actually got so angry that I turned the channel...glad I turned it back right as Celek was catching the ball!!! That game will go doen in the history books and will be the talk at the water cooler all week at work!!! Fly Eagle Fly, on the road to Vicktory!!!! marine8197- I'm still high. I'm still floating on cloud 9. Still can't believe it. This team is amazing!
Michael Vick adds another case to his MVP story. DeSean Jackson....oh my god. I was frustrated watching this but I kept believing and hoping because I wanted us to win. That was probably the best Eagles game since 4th and 26 DonovanMcNabb
u left out the 6ers....check.now the this is another chapter of eagles/giants football.what a finish by the eagles!! hopefully every body is still in awe ,about this finish.this was just as meaningful as the 1st miracle in the medowlands,we'll call this the second miracle.gotta love the heart of this team, and i hope they go farther than last year.please give me a big win over the cowgirls, for my chrisymas present ..........GO E-A-G-L-E-S ! t_darb_56- And now, beat the Vikings and go to the Playoffs! If so, win or lose, the Cowboys will only be a speed bump!
- Calling a violation on myself, after Reid blew the challange (3rd of three) I completely lost faith and would have bet the farm that we couldn't win. If McNabb (or anybody else but Vick) was under center we would have lost. So happy to be wrong
Djax was NOT running out the clock. The replay is on nfl.com with the clock showing - it hit :00 when Jax was on the 20 - his answer is BS - one of these days his antics are going to cost us jhjack- — tpizza
You can also download any NFL as a torrent file. Just search for NFL 2010 Week 15 Philadelphia. They can be found on the kickass torrent site.
The download probably won't be available until Monday or Tuesday. Previous Eagles games are already avaialble.
The Trifecta.........We steal Cliff Lee from the Evil Empire, Flyers dominate the Blue Shirts and the Eagles Stum the G-Man.......How you feeling NY? How about you Jay-Z, how does that song go again!! eagles2010
The EAGLES are Vicktorious because of DeJack Maclin and the heart they played this football game with. Guess what no showboating so we all can enjoy the Vicktory. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES VegasEagleFan
michael vick willed this team back from victory , playing like an mvp down the strech. this game was next to 4th and 26. i was shaking watching the finish to this game, it was unreal DonovanMcNabb
THEY JUST BROKE IN THE NEW MEADOWLANDS. Ken B
I'm old enough to remember Joe Montana laying 28 pts on us in the 4th quarter of a game where we had the Niners down 27-0. They won 28-27. But I'll tell you, Joe Montana himself didn't do it in under 8 minutes... just to put our man Michael Vick in a little historical perspective. One other thing for folks... it's BECAUSE Michael Vick is a new man by repentance, and BECAUSE he has True Forgiveness for his sins, not only by God, but also by so many people in this awesome city of Philadelphia, that he is finding himself like this. Encourage the best in these kids, as you would for your own, and like with Cliff Lee, we see what happens. Peace to all. landt

Thanks, Eagles, for leaving me this vision of Tom Coughlin screaming at his punter under my Xmas tree. Merry Freaking Christmas, NY. PhillySubsMac

I'm glad Andy didn't throw the Red FLAG NOW. We would of lost a time out joedig22
If AR lost that challenge (the one he didn't throw)... they would have one less time out...and no time for the punt return. I was screaming for him to throw the flag...but it worked out
ziggy
Vick won't let this team die. He gives them great confidence unlike No#5 rideing the bench in washington sixers28
the clock ran out when DeSean was on the 5 yard line.. He is going to cost us a game one of these days... O I LOVE TO BEAT THE GIANTS... stoky
Difference between Vick and McNabb Vick is a true
leader, on the field, and in the locker room.
Vick never gives up on a play or a game, and he DOESN'T WORRY
ABOUT ANYONE CALLING HIM A RUNNING QB???? mikey48- Agree with Tim R! Another Festivus miracle...love it.
Giants lost because NY was still weeping over the Cliff Lee thing sixers28
It needs to be said, that Mike Vick brought this team back from the brink. Today, against a good (and sometimes great) NY Giant defense, Vick made us think of a refined, left-handed Randall Cunningham, zipping up and down the field.
Desean's magic is branded on our brain, but it was Vick who conducted the jounrey. Watching him grow has become the main attraction to a football fan this season. RJ Marrella
Yankee/Ranger/Jint fans have had a bad week. Go Philly! P Even
SUPER BOWL. I can't wait for the Mike Vick Story hits the BIG screen sixers28
They've confirmed Jackson was looking for the clock to confirm the time was done. Grazman- These guys are from another world! The games this year have been crazy. Proud to be an Eagles fan this is just great. GO BOIDS!!
Man does Mike Quick forget about many football games with the giants. It's not part II... it's the new miracle @ the new meadowlands. Clyde Simmons can't even top this iggles48
A wonderful win ! I'm just glad that Coach Andy's idiotic choice not to throw the challenge flag... TWICE!!! ... didn't cost us the game. Giants 3rd & 11 pass NOT a catch, (on their first TD drive), and DeSean's catch NOT a fumble in 3rd quarter. If I can see it before the next play on TV why can't Andy get the word? GrnMtBoy- I must say, this is the best win this season not to mention the games of the year. I am a die hard McNabb fan but he would not have brung them back. I was going crazy when Desean was tight roping the goaline thinking the Giants player was going to strip the ball. I won't say they Eagles will go the the Super Bowl and I won't say they won't. It will be interesting regardless. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!! ewsavage
- I don't even know what to say.... albertpa
- I did think it was hopeless right up until the Manningham fumble. I am still reeling from this shocking and phantastik win. GO EAGLES! flphilly
WooHoo go Eagles! I must say my sister(in texas) and I (in cali) were an intricate part of that win...she called me early in the 4th cause it wasn't showing there. As soon as I started giving her the play by play...the Eagles started moving the points on the board! We didn't want to jinx it by hanging up so I ran all the plays to her over the phone....even how nervous Dodge looked preping for that punt return! OMG! I can't believe we did it! All you locals better know us trnsplants have your back!!! Go Iggles! dot4philly
Did anyone notice the poise and command of the rookie Chaney at MLB today. He was beat on the Boss touchdown and had the offsides on a 3rd&2 for a 1st down. But other than those 2 mistakes, he didn't play at all like a rookie. He was calling plays, commanding the defensive huddle, telling guys where to go...and the guys were listening to him. He definately looked like our MLB of the future. Yonkersphilly- MARVELOUS, just MARVELOUS!!!! There he goes again finding a way to win. That's heart, that's a leader and that's Vick! This is the most thrilling roller coaster ride I have been on in quite some time.
Go Vick, Go Eagles and everyone else....go away!!!
Isn't it great to have timeouts at the end of the game with this new QB we have now. I wonder what has changed? watsonmr- The birds just did the unthinkable; is this a team of DESTINY OR WHAT ???!!! johnnyu
Lonewolf11, thanks for the info. Can't wait to see it. I am going to have sooooomuch fun when I get back to NY. I work with 6 Giant fans and even though the Es were way down I somehow had a calm feeling that a miracle was in the air. My best friend, a Giant fan, despises the Eagles because of the Miracle in the Meadowlands. He must be apoplectic now. Oh, this is going to be so much fun. tpizza
The boys at the Clubhouse say it was the game of the year....one at a time and see where this year goes.... mutleyk- Before too many people say that the Giants lost this....the Giants dominated this game. For some reason the Eagles, with all of their flaws (poor play calling on o & d) decided to fight. They didn't win this game. They stole it. fuss77
- LOL Fuss77 your FUNNY HOW DO YOU DOMINATE AND LOSE.AT WHAT PART OF THE 2ND HALF DID THEY STOP DOMINATING.28 POINTS IN THE 4TH QUARTER.DID YOU FEEL THE DOMINATION SLIPPING AWAY THEN.IF IT WASN'T FOR THE 28 I MIGHT AGREE THEY DOMINATED THE GAME,BUT 28 POINT JUST STOP US ONCEEEEEEEEE IN THAT QUARTER AND YOU MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO STAND ON AS IT IS YOU SOUND FOOLISH!!!!BAHAHAHAHAHAHA rneal
This is one of those games that will haunt the Giants for _years_, just like that famous ending some 32 years ago when the Giants lost that fumble and Herm Edwards picked up the loose ball for a runback touchdown. Sacto103
Maybe it is the euphoria about winning the game of the decade (WOW!), but I will defend Andy on his not throwing the red flag. There must have been part of him that was recollecting how horrible he has been at winning challenges (it is pretty bad, I think) and part of him that was reflecting on the review on the Maclin catch/fumble that went against them. I don't want to sound like too much of a homer, but I think, this year specially, the Eagles have been getting jobbed on reviews--I bet that had something to do with him keeping the red hankie in his sock. regardless, a TERRIFIC comeback. Glad I was able to share that with my kids (like my pop did with Miracle at the Meadowlands, first edition! jrwoznicki
Tom Coughline wakes up every day and takes a vinegar enema. There is no better feeling than beating his Giants and watching his lifespan shorten on the sideline in front of the cameras. Now that the Cowboys suck, there is no better thrill than beating Coughlin and the G-ants. Claudio Vernight
I was in Orlando this weekend, and got to see the Sixers knock off the Magic. I knew I would miss the Eagles-Giants game, but WHY DID I HAVE TO MISS SUCH A CLASSIC?
Go Eagles! You can WIN the Super Bowl! Eaglesman_in_DC- Well, some of my friends claim tha Pats are unbeatable and will score 50 on any NFL team come the Super bowl. Perhaps. But the Eagles can score 52. Vick is playing the game in a different league. I am actually thinking this could be the year, even with Big red out there coaching them. Is this crazy or what?
GREAT THEATER ...WONDERFUL, MAJESTICALLY ENTERTAINING...good luck TEAM for the rest of journey... carmen2
was at the game, wow. the defense is bad, but the offense is crazy. not sure what to say, but, I'll take it. lots o football left though... asgreene81
Vick put a "bite" into the 'ants. mrjarn- If the Giants dominated the first half then the EAGLES dominated when it matter at the end @ Founatson.ALL WE DO IS WIN,WIN,WIN no matter what GO EAGLES!!!! UMM where are the Vick Haters trying to regroupI guess! rneal
- Its AMAZING to me kinda tht Giant fans want to give credit to the Giants for the first half but none to the EAGLES for the second half. TRUELY SHOWS THEIR LOSER MENTALITY!!!!!!! GO EAGLES!!! rneal
I've never seen anything like that last 7:30 of that footbal game. It was simply an unbelievable sports entertainment experience. Lightning in a bottle. oddbird
Most people in the public eye don't even have the guts to say "Merry Christmas" these days; instead they say "Happy Holidays." Meanwhile, amazing Michael Vick, with all eyes on him, doesn't hesitate to give praise to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ -- way to go Michael! God's richest blessings and Merry Christmas!!!! birdgirl
Coleman looked pretty good after Nate went down. Too bad for Allen; he was having a very solid year. They will pick up another DB Mon. and my bet is will fill right in. That is the way the Birds are going this magical season. Now, can they not implode and beat both the Vikes and Boys without anymore injuries? If so, they really could be Super Bowl bound. Amazing that with such a sad D , they are winning with a super O. Koons- CLASSIC. One for the Must Keep Eagle Memory File. Go Eagles. SEE U IN DALLAS.
I love the pic of Coughlin directly behind Jackson's shoulder. can you say "shoot" (or sumsuch)? wel51x
This IS NOT the Miracle in the Meadowlands II. MMII happened in 1988, 10 years after the first. tightmadness
I'm a little groggy right now. DVR'ed the game, didn't watch til about 8:30. Geeze...looked bad for us most of the game. Sitting there mentally grumbling about several things: 1)Coaches up in the box couldn't/didn't tell Andy to challenge the D-Jax fumble!.....2) Defense looked tired and almost ready to pack it in after they let the G's get a fourth TD in the last quarter...31-10...game OVER folks! 3)wondering if V-7 was gonna finally get killed while running somewhere, or trying to stand in the non-existant pocket our defective O-Line pretended to make. 3)Oh look...a great play to Brent Celek...at least we go down fighting. And then the surprise onside kick working to perfection!.....Holy s#%t!...another great play and we're down seven...WHEW! Defense holds again, and V-7 just WILLS us down the field and gets Maclin for the tying TD! Impossible!...Hope we win the coin flip for the overti....WHAT?...REALLY?.....No, it CAN'T BE...I don't freaking BELIEVE IT!!! Laughing, shouting, stomping, deleriously happy and knowing my neighbors think I'm nuts (It's 10:30 when this portion of the game is on) and not giving a damn about it! Too many things to think clearly....but this time it's mostly all good. My heart goes out to our very good rookie safety that wrecked his knee and will be gone for the rest of the year. But here's hoping we will absorb THIS big hit like we did when we lost Graham and Bradley. The games go on, others must step up. Hope Da Bears lose one so we can claim their hold on that number two seed and get a bye week. Bless 'em ALL!! FLY IGGLES FLY!!! TBear
This is why the games are played. I'm a huge Eagles fan but this was clearly a case of the best team not winning. The Gaints outplayed the Eagles for 3Q and about 8 minutes. You have to give Reid a ton of credit and acknowledge his brass set. To call the onside kick after the Celak TD WAS the turning point in the game. He showed his team he had confidence in them. Andy wasn't going down without a fight, let alone number 7. Akers should at the least get a game ball. His execution of that kick was perfect. It why he's the best at what he does. So yes, only with talent like Vick and Jackson could that have been pulled off, it was the coahes that called the o sides kick that was the true momentum changer. Tiller- Is anyone realizing that we suffered through 10 years with McSadd who NEVER EVER even came close to leading the Eagles to a come from behind victory. Its all about the intangibles, the leadership. I am so happy another city (DC) now realizes what we suffered through for all these years. Go Mike Vick! Rdentiii
- What about Jamar Chaney!!! The young fella played a heck of a game. I know one wants to bash Stew but he was missing a lot of tackles in games before he got hurt. Its been a long time since we had a MLB who worked out (Trotts first tour) Hope this kid works out. Rdentiii
Bill Conlin is working on a column as we speak about how poorly the Eagles cornerbacks played. That is the theme of his story, the 2,356 straight negative story. TheSage- I ate sh@# in that stadium for 50 minutes then Giants fans fell silent like a funeral parlor. It was the death of the Giants season. Does anyone think Donovan couldve pulled that off? I say he would've puked all over himself. CELL BLOCK 'D' TO MVP...PAY MIKE HIS MONEY ALREADY. gilligan
The look on Coughlin's face after that play was priceless. Phiinmass- Shocking
@fortunateson your post(s) on here and about the teachers article were negative. you must be as 'gcobb' used to say a true 'negadelphian'. keep drinking the kool-aid and spewing the hate. meanwhile we as a city will finally come together one day and in the meantime enjoy the philly sports resurgence we are about to see emerge with the phillies and eagles. hopefully our other teams will get the message like the eagles when the bought in vick; despite all the initiial bad 'pub' it received. and the phils when they basically realized letting cliff lee go was a mistake and they needed him back. as al davis used to say (before he got so demented) 'just win baby'. do what it takes to win, get it done and watch how winning changes the perception(s) of our city. ihatenewyorkers
