Eagles should ask about Brandon Marshall

Tuesday, June 16, 2009, 10:38 AM
Last week, Andy Reid and Joe Banner walked a few Daily News reporters through the process they used in obtaining left tackle Jason Peters from Buffalo. They talked about seeing reports of Peters being disgruntled, checking to make sure their evaluation of Peters as a player was as good as they thought... Read more

Why replay on Dobbs non-HR wasn't necessary

Monday, June 15, 2009, 2:22 PM
The world that orbits around the Phillies is still talking about the call on Friday night, when Greg Dobbs' extra-inning, potential gamewinning bomb against the Red Sox was ruled a foul ball by first base umpire Jim Joyce. The ball was high, so high, that it was higher than the top of the foul pole... Read more

McNabb's $6.3 million benching

Friday, June 12, 2009, 9:02 AM
ESPN is reporting that Donovan McNabb's new contract adds a potential total of $6.3 million to the value of the deal over two seasons, including incentives. It was worth $19.2 million and now it could be worth $25.5 million. You wonder if Andy Reid knew it would cost the team that much when he benched... Read more

Phils are gamers, and Mets know it

Thursday, June 11, 2009, 11:51 AM
Good column in the New York Post today by Mike Vaccaro. What it did, more than anything, was paint a picture of the dynamic that exists between the Mets and the Phillies, about how the Phillies know how to win and how the Mets know this all too well. Everybody has lived the rivalry the last couple... Read more

Lidge truth hurts

Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 2:32 PM
The statistical anomalies of the Phillies' 2008 run to the World Series were these: a starting pitching staff that remained completely healthy for the entire season and closer Brad Lidge remaining completely, pristinely, impeccably perfect for the whole year. Now comes the backlash, the statistical... Read more

Monday, June 8, 2009, 1:08 PM
Rauuuuul, who deserves it, and JRoll, who doesn't, have taken the lead in the latest fan balloting for this summer's All-Star game in St. Louis. Such is the power of sold-out crowds at Citizens Bank Park, and the glow that continues to surround the defending World Champions -- and, in the case of... Read more

Monday, June 8, 2009, 10:30 AM
The Cowboys are thinking about re-acquiring Pacman Jones. The Brett Favre-to-Minnesota talk has been revived. Yippee. First, Pacman. The story comes courtesy of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. You will remember that the Cowboys ditched Jones after a dustup involving his own security guard in a hotel... Read more

Dawkins notices Denver is different

Sunday, June 7, 2009, 10:39 AM
Different town, similar event. Different town, different people. So it was that Brian Dawkins attended the "Fan Fair" that his new team, the Denver Broncos, puts on in the off-season. The Eagles Youth Partnership holds a fan-oriented event during training camp. This year, in a bit of a... Read more

The upside on Westbrook

Thursday, June 4, 2009, 11:03 AM
Glass half-full time on Brian Westbrook. It's bad that he needs to have bone spurs in his ankle cleaned out. But the timing is good. That is where you have to begin. So what if he misses training camp? Honestly, in his case, training camp is just another place where Westbrook can get hurt. (And don't... Read more

T.O.'s house-hunting blues

Wednesday, June 3, 2009, 9:09 AM
Terrell Owens is shocked -- shocked! -- as he searches for a home to rent in the Buffalo area. Apparently, he went and saw a place in Orchard Park, the community where the Bills' stadium is located. And he cannot believe that the people did not want to rent to him because of, well, here is what... Read more
About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com Reach Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com.
