FEMA will declare residents of 11 Pennsylvania counties, including Philadelphia and its suburbs, eligible for individual assistance as a result in connection with damage from Hurricane Irene.

Congressman Bob Brady's office made the announcement today. Here's the release:

Philadelphia --- Congressman Robert A. Brady (D., PA) today announced that FEMA will declare residents of 11 Pennsylvania counties, including Philadelphia and its suburbs, eligible for individual assistance as a result of the major disaster declaration Congressman Brady helped secure in the aftermath of Irene. This assistance will provide residents with the maximum amount of federal aid to Pennsylvania's hardest hit areas.

The 11 counties are: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Sullivan and Wyoming.

The declaration comes in the wake of a series of discussions between Brady's office, FEMA, and the White House.

Congressman Brady said, "FEMA's major disaster declaration in the immediate wake of Irene was just the first step in Pennsylvania's recovery. The individual assistance declaration we received today is critical to help putting Pennsylvanians back on their feet."

Congressman Brady continued, "I want to thank Governor Corbett and his team for moving fast to submit Pennsylvania's request for this declaration. The nature of this disaster has tested our Governor and he has met the challenge."

Congressman Brady continued, "National disasters do not recognize partisanship or political ideology. They simply demand leadership and that is what President Obama and Governor Corbett showed today."
