Nutter vetoes bill to increase parking-ticket fee to pay for parks & rec

POSTED: Tuesday, September 11, 2012, 12:27 PM

Mayor Nutter says he will veto legislation passed by City Council that would have raised parking ticket fines by $4 each to fund the Parks and Recreation budget.

In a letter to Council, Nutter said the legislation violates state law and the City Charter, which say Council lacks the authority to say how such fines can be distributed.

Checking with bill sponsor Mark Squilla for reaction. Stay tuned.

Take away ALL City Council cars and we will save a lot of money. City Council are a bunch of crooks. Cut perks and audit cellphone use, cell phones in general are being used for personal use instead of business. This expense alone costs the city MILLIONS per year. We to better police our own council and use that money to pay for schools, police OT and other needs.

so city council needs to come up w/some scratch for parks&rec. and what brilliant idea do they come up with, and agree on? I know, we'll just jack up the find for a parking ticket by $4 a clip. where do they get the gall? Here's a better idea, ask your 2 drunk drivers to kick in the money from their DUI fines. What's the bigger joke, city council or the city itself?

@aguckin: You're right! That was my thought. Why should he allow them to raise it when Nutless can just put his hand further into my pocket.

This is completly out of character for NUM NUT Nutter. He is usually pushing those tax hikes that are destined to destroy the city. Beware Philly citizens the clown has changed his colors and he is going into disguise. Out will come a monster you won't recognize.

All will agree that Nutter is protecting the pocketbooks of all Philly residents by understanding the law. What baffles me is that the city council did not investigate whether it could legally raise the fines on parking tickets.
