Nutter and crew headed to inaugural

Several city officials will attend Obama's second inaugural, and so will a few local Boy Scouts

Beyonce, James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson will serenade President Obama at his second inaugural Jan. 21.

More than a few Philadelphians will be in the crowd to watch, including Mayor Nutter, and three of his top staffers, Terry Gillen, Tumar Alexander, and Desiree Peterkin-Bell. Two employees from the mayor's security detail will accompany them.

Nutter, of course, was a strong supporter of Obama, and Peterkin-Bell recently returned to the mayor's staff after working on the president's re-election campaign. The mayor already will be in Washington D.C. for a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, of which he is president. The mayor's group will pay Nutter's travel costs, and the city will pick up the tab for everyone else. Mark McDonald, a spokesman for Nutter, said he did not yet have an estimate of those costs.

Nutter administration officials weren't the only locals invited back this time. Boy Scouts of America Troop 358, a historically African-American troop based in Germantown, will be marching in the inaugural parade for a second time.

"Troop 358 is honored by being invited back again," said Charles Whiting, one of the group's leaders.

Although Obama's inauguration team is keeping the second inaugural simpler than the first, there will still be plenty of parties for supporters to attend. On Sunday, Jan. 20, for example, the Pennsylvania Society of Washington, D.C., will have an inaugural bash at the Ritz-Carlton in the capital city. Tickets are $225.
