Certainly the firefighters deserve their small raise. They are the only dependable service left. shorekeeper
are they moving to 401k's like the rest of america? barry m goldwater
I love when people make these comments about the firefighters and cops. Their pensions are not that great. My grand father was a fireman for thirty years and I guess he really made a killing on that $1200 a month pension. You should be really mad at the politcal hacks who get six figure salaries and colas every year. Oh and their pension kicks in after 5 years of service or they can buy their time.. IceCold
The firemen get the DROP plus their pensions thet are doing very well the commodore
The politicians are the one making out with the drop. These guys freeze their pension so they get 10 percent less over their lifetime, no raises are included in the pension because it is frozen and no cost of living increases. What price do you put on all the things these people give up ie: family events, spending time with their kids? It is nice the city is giving them a 9 % raise after it raised their real estate taxes by 20+% IceCold
Don't worry the city will refuse to honor the award again. You should all read it and see how the city WASTED millions of your tax dollars by refusing the first award. It's all spelled out in there. Also included is where 300 million of your tax dollars spent on pet projects including 8 million a year paid to the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES as a subsidiary payment. Why is that? Where is the media coverage on why 8 million of your tax dollars each year is paid to the EAGLES? jn3
Good for them! They deserve more. How they do their job in this horrific heat is beyond me. marcie
I don't know why they don't go to 401K's like everyone else. They could be given shares of stock in the company too. Just like everyone else.
Maybe we need to look at reversing the trend of people not getting pensions - instead of eliminating them. Cause those 401k's have worked out so well for people over the last decade.
And include serious enforcement so a firm or government couldn't underfund it's pensions for decades. Nothing like causing a crisis to take more away from people. Works everytime. We mismanaged for decades - now - it's your fault. Poit
To anyone who believes the hundred thousand or so dollars that most workers get from drop is somehow life changing money, I am surprised they can afford an internet connection. Kong- A pension with no cost of living adjustment. The amount of money you get after you retire, is the same amount 20 years later. Anyone hired after 1987 gets less of a pension than those hired prior to 1987.
Only 5 years of post job medical coverage for a profession that has a much higher cancer, lung, and heart disease rate than the general populace.
Having to wait months or years for a raise when the price of everything is going up.
Working under a hostile city government who cares not for it's firefighters.
I can't wait for retirement! yat-yas
