Zoning on tap for state building at Broad and Spring Garden

City Council's Rules Committee this morning will consider a zoning change today that would allow the sale and redevelopment of the Philadelphia State Office Building at Broad and Spring Garden Streets.

In January, Gov. Rendell announced the planned sale of the 19-story building to Bart Blatstein's Tower Investments for $25.2 million. The 900 government workers there are to be shifted to other state offices, at 801 Market St. and 8012 Arch St.

Blatstein is looking to convert the building, at the southwest corner of the intersection, into residential and retail.
