Slasher strikes Mayor's, Controller's cars at City Hall

A vandal slashed tires on four city cars early Monday, including one used for the Mayor and two belonging to the police officers on his personal protection detail.

Nutter spokesman Doug Oliver said the vandal, who also stuck a pool car used by the City Controller, apparently was not targeting Mayor Nutter. The black SUV Nutter uses most was parked nearby and was left untouched.

"It appears to have been random," Oliver said. The incident happened around 5 a.m., he said.

The front left tire on the Mayor's 2008 Chevrolet Impala was damaged, along with two tires each on the personal vehicles of the police officers, said Oliver, who declined to identify the officers' cars for security reasons.

The three vehicles were parked on the apron at City Hall's Northeast corner, their usual space, and are not currently in use as Nutter is on vacation. The controller's hybrid Ford Escape was parked outside the Municipal Services Building at 15th and JFK Boulevard. It had one tire slashed.
