Nutter & Council near budget deal on property & soda taxes

Mayor Nutter and a slim City Council majority may have reached agreement this afternoon on a 2011 budget featuring a 3/4 cent per ounce tax on sugary drinks, a 9.9 percent increase in property taxes and several other new levies and fees, council sources said.

Council leadership is still counting votes, so this could change, but at the moment it looks like the city may finally have its solution to a budget deficit Nutter has said is as large as $150 million.
