Nutter to back Bass in 8th District

Mayor Nutter will jump into a City Council race for the first time this year, hoping to use his mayoral clout to push Cindy Bass to victory in the 8th Council District.

In a move that reflects a developing alliance between Nutter, state Rep. Dwight Evans and U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, D., Phila. -- Bass' employer -- Nutter will formally endorse Bass for the seat being vacated by Donna Reed Miller. Miller is will retire in January after 16 years representing the district that ranges from Tioga in North Philadelphia to Chestnut Hill.

Bass, a senior policy analyst in Fattah's office, has her hands full in the Democratic primary, with six competitors - William Durham, Andrew Lofton, Greg Paulmier Robin Tasco, Howard Treatman and Verna Tyner.
