Nutter Endorses Kenyatta Johnson -- Finally

For weeks, Mayor Nutter has been expected to endorse state Rep. Kenyatta Johnson in his bid to win the Second District Council seat being vacated by Council President Anna C. Verna.

That endorsement is finally supposed to happen today at 3:45 p.m., outside City Hall.

The mayor is backing candidates in three other district battles in which the incumbent is retiring. He's supporting Marty Bednarek in the Sixth, Mark Squilla in the Second and Cindy Bass in the Eighth. Those endorsements were made two or more weeks ago.

Johnson is facing a three-way battle against community activist Tracey Gordon and developer Barbara Capozzi, a Verna ally. A fourth candidate, Damon K. Roberts, announced that he's dropping out.
