Mayor to join in Habitat for Humanity project
Mayor Nutter got dirty last spring, and he's going to do it again.
This time, though, he won't be breaking a sweat because of a massive citywide street clean-up. He'll be building a house.
Nutter is expected to join Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers this Saturday to help construct a "green" affordable housing unit in work that will be filmed for a later showing on the Discovery Channel's "Renovation Nation." Filming will take place 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the mayor is scheduled to join at 2:30 p.m.
The home will be built at 4220 W. Stiles St. in East Parkside. Among the tasks to be performed: laying a bamboo floor, building a rear porch with recycled materials, installing a tubular skylight, and installing a dual flush toilet that conserves water.
No word on which job will be the mayor's.
