Jones did not disrespect Carol Campbell

It has come to our attention that Carol Ann Campbell fans and/or Curtis Jones Jr.'s enemies want to believe that Jones was taking a cheap shot at Campbell, who died Wednesday, when we quoted him saying: "She had a lot of gangsta in her." Jones said a lot of nice things about Campbell in a press release, but we knew that the "gangsta" reference was the highest compliment coming from Jones, a street kid from West Philly. For those who don't get it or don't want to get it, Jones was saying that Campbell was a tough street-fighter of the highest caliber -- an adversary to be admired, not mocked. Miss Campbell would have taken it the same way -- and she's probably cussing Jones right now for kissing up. Click here for Philly.com's politics page.
