Councilman Jones Making Room for Some Sausage

POSTED: Monday, September 29, 2008, 4:37 PM

In the first of what are sure to be many, many Philadelphia-Milwaukee wagers, Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. has challenged a Milwaukee alderman to a Phillies-Brewers wager.

Jones is offering hoagies and Tastykakes. The alderman, Bob Bauman, is putting up a case of Usinger's sausage, which apparently are a local specialty. We wonder how Jones is planning on shipping his hoagies? The Tastycakes (which Bauman described as "baked snacks similar to Hostess products" in a press release) will no doubt travel just fine.

The Phillies host the Brewers Wednesday.

As someone born and raised in Milwaukee, I can confirm that Usingers is a Milwaukee institution and is widely believed to make the best brats. The Councilman should have a little cookout by the "cafe" that the movie people left behind at City Hall. I'll supply my German potato salad recipe! Just in time for Oktoberfest.
