Council peace pies for Nutter

City Council members have made no secret of their unhappiness with Mayor Nutter of late, complaining about his budget, his aversion to wage tax hikes, and his treatement of council.

But at least one council member thinks the rhetoric has gone a little too far.

"It's a sad day in the house when mom and pop are arguing. And definitely mom and pop should not be arguing in public," said Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. at a council budget hearing last night.

In this metaphor, Nutter is pop, and council is mom, Jones said.

So the taxpayers are the children?

"We need to bring our disagreements inside, hash it out and come out with a united front," Jones said.

Today, he followed the remark up with a peace offering.

Pie. Lots and lots of pie.

Strawberry pie. Bean pie. Bannana pie. Ten pies in all, delivered to Nutter and the mayor's security detail, Jones said.

"I'm playing with Marquess of Queensbury rules is all," said Jones, referring to a gentlemanly code of boxing regulations.
