The U.S. Department of Defense handed over $3.4 million to the City of Philadelphia today, the product of a city Inspector General investigation which found evidence of uncashed 2005 wage tax checks from the D.O.D. to the city.

Inspector General Amy Kurland came across the missing funds as part of an ongoing corruption investigation into a former city employee. Kurland had little to say about that ongoing probe, but she said the city notified the D.O.D. of what it found, and D.O.D. records confirmed that the 2005 checks had never been cashed.

Kurland said the city is reconciling all wage tax accounts involving federal agencies as part of its investigation, and she predicted that more uncashed funds would be found.

News of the uncashed check was announced at a press conference where Kurland touted her office's accomplishments over the past year.

OMG. What kind of lead paint babies go into Democratic politics in Philly? This is the stuff of the dreams of right wing radio. The Philly and PA Democrats are the worst in the nation. The worst in the world. The Democrats have to crack down just to spare them the embarrassment of having these people in their party.

Bravo Amy Kurland for finding this money and going after it. Who didn't cash these checks? What agency, what person, and who hired them?

I'm angry. I'm angry that Rendell just gave his imprimatur to the party that followed him in office as mayor. Rendell stated they would continue what he started, but they just tore up and dismantled what Rendell started, from property tax assessment and collection, to forfeit bail, to proper normal accounting standards and business practices in city offices. It was all torn apart as though by wild dogs, orcs, maniacs. Reconstructing it will be a task. The courts are a mess, the sheriff is a mess, the OCQS is not even properly function to call it a mess, the BRT is shameful disgrace of patronage and failure to perform. Reconstructing these records and procedures will take a lifetime of hard work. Forget rebuilding Haiti, we need to reconstruct Philly. Did an earthquake hit the Democrats here? What HAPPENED to make them this bad?

Nutter is to be congratulated for assigning his people to go into this. No wonder the trolls come in here wanting Nutter to cut his people, when they're finding stuff like this. Can city employees simply not read, write, and spell? This is the Dept. of Revenue, isn't it? They're JUST as bad or WORSE than the BRT. They're more akin to the OCQS. They've stopped certifying property for sheriff sale that owes money, all because they get told to by the party brass.
