Capozzi raises funds for legal bout

POSTED: Thursday, May 19, 2011, 1:08 PM

UPDATE 6:22 p.m.: According to the Capozzi camp, the blast email that went out to supporters did not include the Johnson-bashing note at the top, which was included in the email sent to reporters and others that we published earlier. The heading talked trash about Johnson's allegedly dirty block and showed Capozzi supposedly sweeping it up during the citywide cleanup in April.

It immediately drew a response from Johnson's spokesman, Mark Nevins, who said: "Now is the time to respect the will of the voters, not engage in the sort of personal, political attacks Capozzi favored throughout the campaign. I can only hope that this campaign stunt wasn’t a one-time effort and that she'll continue to find ways to stay involved and work with Kenyatta after he's sworn in as the next councilman from the 2nd District."

Capozzi apparently did not approve of the post-Election Day politicking. It was not part of the link emailed out to the wider audience, a spokeswoman said.

ORIGINAL POST

Barbara Capozzi, still hoping for a longshot victory in the 2nd City Council District when absentee ballots are counted, sent out this email Thursday hinting at legal action and asking her supporters for more money.

Capozzi finished 72 votes behind state Rep. Kenyatta Johnson by the end of Tuesday night, and the count now goes to absentee, provisional and other ballots. That process is supposed last into next week.

"We are collecting information regarding any observations of irregularities at the polls," reads the email, asking people to send in reports of "any abnormal activity you experienced in the 2nd District."

"We are asking for your help to raise funds to see the campaign through to victory," the email reads.

It would be nice if she would just concede gracefully.

Why should anyone concede a race that hasn't been decided yet. Democracy is about letting everyone's voice be heard, not just the first voices to be counted. Every voice counts. Every vote counts. Until that happens, no candidate should ever concede.

Hey Capozzi would have won but she ignored a major political player that i'm sure would have gotten her those 70 some votes she is so begging for now.

Maybe Barbara spent too much money on full page ads and not enough on grass roots politics. Kenyatta's team took nothing for granted on election day and in the days leading up to the election. The post of Barbara sweeping on Kenyatta's block is dirty politics (no pun intended). Can't wait for the final tally.

You're only saying its "dirty" politics because the headline told you it was. A picture of a candidate sweeping a dirty street is standard election photos. If that street happened to be Kenyatta's then he should be embarrassed, not defensive. Besides, his entire campaign was about race, not issues. Nothing is dirtier then that.

I love how people think Capozzi should concede without having received a final vote count. Are you saying that Senior Citizens and the Disabled shouldn't have their voices heard? Both her AND JOHNSON owe it to the people of the Second District to make sure that the voters of the Second District have their voice heard.

PhillyPatriot, you are preaching to the choir. Johnson voters are also likely to be the same who pulled the lever for Milton Street, and that should tell you enough. Being fair and counting all votes honestly is not what Johnson supporters want, they feel he is entitled to the election win, you know the reason why.

I am not a fan of Capozzi... But she is better suited to run the district than Johnson. Plain and simple. It is unfortunate that a lot of automatic votes are going to Johnson for reasons other than his being fit to represent the district. Capozzi rubs me the wrong way. But she is better than Johnson, who couldn't hack it at the state level, and is now back with his tail between his legs. He does not have the first clue what to do with the Packer Park area!

Johnson is a big supporter of Arlene Ackerman. He heartily approves of the beatings of the Asian students. He only cares about one race of people, and his biggest goal is keeping Point Breezr a filthy ghetto of crime and blight.

Does the rapper Beanie Segal donate to Johnson's campaign?

I like Capozzi, but it's a rare event to overturn even a margin this small.

We should probably hope an independant or a republican runs in November so we can rally the troops against Johnson then...

Kevinmac wants her to "just lose please"... Wonder if he's talkin to Capozzi or Johnson... I don't think I'd want a representative who just rolls over and accepts a loss. I'd want someone who fights and makes sure that there was no foul play. One who makes sure the vote truely represents the few people who got to the polls on tuesday.

When the Concerned Citizens of Point Breeze tried to stop a new restaurant from opening at 18th and Federal Barbara Capozzi stepped in. When the Concerned Citizens of Point Breeze tried to halt new construction in Point Breeze to keep out white people, Barbara Capozzi stepped in. The only candidate who called Arlene Ackerman on her complete mishandling of the beating of Asian students was Barbara Capozzi. Kenyatta Johnson ran on 1)"Ahm Black, ahma stick it to whitey" 2)"Ahm Black, ahma stick it to whitey" and 3)"Ahm Black, ahma stick it to whitey".

Hey Giganti SP (South Philly)- one of convicted felon Mike Guida's friends? Did you know he is a rat? Guida was part of the Capozzi Team and based on that fact alone, she should investigate herself. Two reasons why Barbara does not win #1 - CONVICTED FELON turned RAT (see USA v. Dennis Virelli)was heavily involved in campaign and he is a slime-ball and #2 - all she had to do was be nice to her own people in South Philadelphia. She is a creep with a bad attitude and she needs to get over that anybody cares that she dated Flyers Paul Holmgren and most of the team in the 70's and the 80" and her husband Frank Scramuzza who is Guida's friend likes his women a bot thinner.

Kirk.. I understand what you're sayin. I also said that I'm not a fan of Capozzi. But I just think she is a better alternative. Johnson probably would do very little to hold Arlene Ackerman accountable for the continued decline of the schools, probably has no real opinion on the city wage tax, and probably thinks it would be a sin if people from the suburbs built new construction in the point breeze section of the city. "I don't do much", was a catchy Beanie Segal song. That song probably best describes the intentions of your Kenyatta Johnson...

Johnson does not live in the Second District proves that the "Capozzi Camp" may have been the better choice...and that votes counted may have been for "voters" who did not live at the addresses just like K. Johnson. So why is it that the inky turned a deaf ear to the tactics of K. Johnson. Elections need to be FAIR!!!
