Bass endorsements are official

The slate of endorsements that 8th District council candidate Cindy Bass hinted at earlier in the week has become official. Bass is one of seven people trying to replace Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller. This is the only race in which Mayor Nutter has endorsed a candidate so far.

Here's a release from the campaign, previewing Saturday's event.

Today, Cindy Bass, Candidate for Philadelphia City Council in the 8th District, was joined by Mayor Nutter, State Representative Dwight Evans, Congressman Chaka Fattah, State Senator Vincent Hughes and dozens of supporters at Wired Beans Café in Mount Airy for the announcement of key endorsements of her campaign. All four elected officials commended Bass for her commitment to public service and pledged their support for her as the next Councilwoman from the 8th District.

"I am proud to support Cindy Bass for the 8th-District City Council seat," said Mayor Nutter. "With her strong background in community activism and urban policy, she will make a great addition to City Council."

The Mayor added, "Cindy has a passion and dedication for improving the quality of life in Philadelphia that I am sure will serve the 8th District well. I hope to be able to work with her on moving this city forward and continuing to make this a great city in which to live, work, raise and educate our children."

"Cindy Bass' strong desire to serve and problem solving skills are a winning combination for creating jobs and opportunities in the 8th District and the City of Philadelphia," said Representative Evans.

"Cindy Bass is uniquely qualified to represent the neighborhoods and neighbors of the 8th District," said Congressman Fattah. "She was born, raised and raising a family in the 8th District. She has a deep understanding of the people and the issues affecting the community. She's worked with Mt. Airy USA, for then State Senator Allyson Schwartz, as Senior Policy Advisor in my congressional staff, membership at Enon Baptist Church, and leadership on a long list of civic associations. She has my enthusiastic endorsement. She is a great leader and will do a great job."

State Senator Vincent Hughes added, "Cindy Bass is an excellent candidate and will make an outstanding addition to the Philadelphia City Council."

These endorsements mark a major milestone in the campaign for the 8th District, and adding to the momentum of Bass's campaign for City Council.

"I am overwhelmed by and very grateful for the support of Mayor Nutter, Rep. Evans, Congressman Fattah, and Senator Hughes," said Bass. "Their endorsement speaks to the broad base of support my campaign has amassed and I plan to work with them and other elected officials and community leaders to get results for the people of the 8th District."
