No more excuses, recyling is getting easier.

Beginning Monday, July 7, single-stream recycling will finally be available citywide, fulfilling one of Mayor Nutter's campaign pledges. Single-stream recycling - i.e., putting all recylables into a single bin instead of sorting them by type - is easier and thus thought to increase the recycling rate. That's good news, since Philadelphia has long had one of the most dismal recyling rates in the country. Apart from the environmental benefits, a better recyling rate ought to save the city some money: Nutter estimated it would be $17 million during his campaign. Get a bin or learn more here. CORRECTED: The original post mistakenly identified the citywide single-stream date as January 7.
