The best of Healthy Kids in 2016

Check out our bloggers' favorites from 2016.

I checked in with our bloggers to find out their own favorite post from last year. Here are some posts that are worth revisiting!

"I think "Extreme obesity has tripled among teens" was my best post because I was able to use real examples to illustrate the seriousness of morbid obesity in teenagers. I hope it pushed some families to pay attention to it and get help."  –Rima Himelstein, M.D., Adolescent Medicine Specialist at Crozer-Keystone Health System

"I would have to say "Are fad diets safe for kids?" was the most influential.  It had the most responses arguing for or against low carb diets." –Megan Robinson, MS, RD, CDE, LDN, Registered Dietitian, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

"My favorite would be "I hate homework!"  This has received the most positive (and negative) response from readers and been passed around the most by social media.  It's also a topic I am quite passionate about and for which the data are very clear: it adds no demonstrable benefit, but can take away so much joy!" –Katherine K. Dahlsgaard, Ph.D., Lead Psychologist of The Anxiety Behaviors Clinic at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

"My very close second favorite would be the blog I wrote about "Girls and ADHD: It's not what you would expect."  The different ways that ADHD can present in girls -- and the havoc it can wreak if unrecognized and untreated  is an important topic, but one that doesn't get a lot of coverage anywhere, including research articles.  ADHD just stubbornly seems to remain in people's minds as a disorder of boys  this was an important post to help counter that." –Katherine K. Dahlsgaard, Ph.D., Lead Psychologist of The Anxiety Behaviors Clinic at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

"I think my favorites this year are my brain food blogs: "5 types of foods for healthier brains", "Healthy meals that boost brain health", and "Foods that will boost, balance or bust your brain."— Sarah Levin Allen, Ph.D., CBIS, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

"My favorite is "Are trampoline parks causing more injuries for kids?" As trampoline parks have become a popular activity for children, it's important for families to be aware of the potential risks involved. My blog post offers a few precautions to help families stay safe." –Evan Weiner, M.D., FAAP, Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children

"Would you step in if you saw a child being harshly punished?" had the most comments out of all my blogs this past year. –Janet Rosenzweig, MS, PhD, MPA, Executive Director of The American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children

"Why is high blood pressure underdiagnosed in children?" – Gary A. Emmett, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University

"Slow the frenzy, and take time to just be a parent to your child." – Anita Kulick, President & CEO, Educating Communities for Parenting

"Tips for families flying with food, seasonal allergies." –  Christopher C. Chang, MD, PhD, MBA, FAAAAI, FACAAI, Clinical Professor of Medicine in division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Clinical Immunology at UC Davis
