Healthy family recipe: A twist on the classic PB&J

Try using real fruit instead of jelly next time you make a PB&J!

This recipe was created by Melissa Gallagher, student volunteer with Healthy Weight Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Are your kids getting tired of eating the same school lunch every day? We have a twist on the classic PB&J that your children are guaranteed to love! In this sandwich recipe, we decided to take out the jelly, which is often packed with sugar, and replace it with natural fruit. When choosing a type of bread look for packages that are labeled 100 percent whole grain or whole wheat. These will provide your children with more fiber and keep them full throughout the busy school day!  Some of the favorite peanut butter and fruit combos include apples, pears, bananas or strawberries. By using a variety of different fruits you can ensure that this classic sandwich will never get old!
