Healthy family recipe: Waffle breakfast toast

Whole grain waffles and fruit provide vitamins and minerals, and are an excellent source of fiber, helping to keep children full until the lunch bell rings.

With the start of the new school year, comes a need for nutritious and easy breakfast ideas to fuel children's bodies and minds for the day. Whole grain waffles and fruit provide vitamins and minerals, and are an excellent source of fiber, helping to keep children full until the lunch bell rings. In addition to being delicious, swapping the traditional syrup with a nut butter can pack a big nutritional punch as a source of fiber protein and healthy fats for your child.

Let your children pick and choose which nut butter and fruit they want to put on their creation, as this will promote creativity and maybe even expose them to new foods. Pair this hearty breakfast with a low-fat source of dairy to get in calcium and vitamin D, such as a glass of 1 percent milk or low fat yogurt, and enjoy!
