Sixth death reported in Nap Nanny Infant Recliner

After tragic reports of a sixth infant death, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging all parents and caregivers who own a Nap Nanny or Nap Nanny Chill recliner to stop using it immediately.

Five of the six deaths occurred in a Nap Nanny recliner placed in a crib with a crib bumper, while another infant died in a Nap Nanny that was placed on the floor.

According to the CPSC website, the latest death occurred in Hopatcong, N.J. where an 8-month-old girl secured by a belt was found partly hanging over the side of a Nap Nanny recliner, trapped between the product and a crib bumper.

In 2013, Baby Matters LLC of Berwyn, Pa., announced a voluntary recall of all models of its Nap Nanny, which are no longer sold in stores. However, officials at the CPSC believe that parents and caregivers are still picking up these hazardous products from yard sales, online auction sites or using them as hand-me-down gifts. Parents should be aware that once a product is officially recalled, it is illegal to sell or resell them.
