Halil Kanacevic and the crowd at Hagan Arena held their breath when the St. Joseph’s junior forward went down in the first half of Monday’s 61-35 win over Yale.

With 10 minutes and 45 seconds left in the first half and St. Joseph’s leading 15-4, Kanacevic left after hurting his back. He looked to be in noticeable pain.

“I threw an outlet and I don’t know who hit me, I don’t know if it was a teammate but somebody got me on my legs and I fell on my back awkwardly and it kind knocked the wind out of me,” Kanacevic said. “I felt a little weird on my back and I didn’t’ want to move fast.”

He admitted to being momentarily concerned at first.

“You never want to play around with that kind of stuff so I wanted to take a precatious to it and I didn’t’ want to get up right way,” he said. “it worked out, I played the rest of the game.”

Kanacevic returned with 5:52 left and the Hawks up 20-12. He ended up playing 31 minutes and had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
