Valley Forge native Tory Burch holds first runway show

Tory Burch may have made her name through her coveted, yuppie-beloved, Reba ballet flats, but the Valley Forge native showed her designer might, through her first runway show on Tuesday.

Although Tory Burch became a household name through her coveted, Reba ballet flats, the Valley Forge native-turned-branding queen showed her might and longevity as a designer through her first-ever runway show.

The curator of lifestyles made an impressive catwalk debut at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center on Tuesday morning. Tory tweeted various details surrounding her Spring/Summer 2012 collection presentation:

Leave it to Tory to add a cultured, art history-background element to her set, which was inspired by artist/sculptor and confessional art creator Louise Bourgeois. Burch's models wore Essie Mademoiselle nail color and pinned their hair back with a left side part. Makeup was "very twenties" with models donning smokey eyes, pale lips and blush.

The highlight of Burch's show, in my opinion, was not the hair, makeup, event backdrop, or even Joe Zee (who was in the front row). It was the Raffia-inspired dresses, jackets, skirts, and bags, that caught the eye of several front-row editors. Tory's striped sequined dresses that sparkled down the runway came in as a close second.

Burch explained to the Associated Press that her collection was inspired by French seaside resort Deauville, and what it was like in the 1920s. "It's all mixed with feminine details like raffia, crochet, ruffles embroidery, layered chiffon and sequins," she explained.

As usual, Burch mixed bright colors and patterns (stripes, florals, polka dots), with various mediums in the spirit of Spring, which couldn't come sooner after this show.

Congrats, Tory! We wish you the best.
