Olivia Palermo launches new website

After her brief stint as Joe Zee's pet at ELLE, Palermo realized that her Rolodex and personal sense of style were enough to land her an alternative career option: Executive Editor of her very own domain.

She may have been portrayed as a maniacal, heartless, stone-cold [insert expletive here] on The City, but let's be honest: The girl knows how to dress.

After her brief stint as Joe Zee's pet at ELLE where she faced off against PR cool girl Erin Kaplan, Palermo realized that her Rolodex and personal sense of style were enough to land her an alternative career option: Executive Editor of her very own domain.

Palermo launched her website/blog, oliviapalermo.com, on Friday, and it's nothing groundbreaking, considering that the blog includes a hefty staff of five full-timers and eleven contributors. However, it does provide an in-depth look (with examples) on Olivia's fashion philosophy and how she styles herself.

For example, how does Olivia wear leather shorts?

The Sartorialist's Scott Schumann has snapped various photos of Palermo in the past, but the one post that gained a tremendous amount of steam included an image of Olivia in leather shorts and stiletto booties. Her knack for leather is nothing new, but how she pulls it off makes her unique. Rather than adding a tough-girl, rough-rider element  to her overall look, Olivia actually makes leather look youthful, trendy and classy. One of the first posts on her blog actually reviews how she wears this fabric. Here is an excerpt:

"Leather shorts are a study in contradiction, combining the luxury of rich leathers and the casual silhouette of shorts. Their duality makes them a formidable fashion trend to conquer – but also gives leather shorts their versatility and contemporary cool."

Well said. In conclusion, this may be the perfect role for Palermo, who revealed her inability to take criticism in the workplace (especially from Kaplan) with her prearranged, former job at ELLE.

After all, there was an episode of The City titled, Work Horses and Show Ponies. Perhaps now, Palermo can prove to the world that she belongs in the first category.
