Best-dressed at the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards

Although the show was a snooze, the red carpet was full of jaw-dropping, skin-baring pieces in a smattering array of shapes and colors. Our picks for the evening:

It was a red carpet full of skin-baring stars. Television's brightest talent filed into the Nokia Centre Sunday evening in a smattering array of designer dresses including a variety of silhouettes, textures and bright hues. View our favorite picks below and vote for the best-dressed star, here.

Kerry Washington's glittery, sequin and jewel-encrusted Vivienne Westwood number sparkled in the Nokia Centre Sunday evening. The star of ABC's Scandal kept everything else simple: She decided to forego dripping jewels and ostentatious accessories in case they detracted from her dress.

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara really brought the bam factor in a hand-beaded, aquamarine gown by Zuhair Murad that draped beautifully over her curves. Vergara, however, had an interesting start to her evening: Moments before she was expected on stage to accept the Outstanding Comedy award with her castmates, the back zipper of her designer dress broke, leaving her derriere exposed to the Hollywood elements.

Both Lena Dunham and Allison Williams brought their respective doses of personality and individuality to the red carpet Sunday evening.

Dunham, right, clad in a lace, floor-length Prada gown, flaunted her newly-chopped locks (perhaps a pending scene in season 2 of HBO's Girls?) and a smoldering, smoky eye. Williams, left, channeled her on-screen character in a ladylike green, strapless, floor-length peplum gown.

Fierce and funny in one-off fuchsias

Beauty, brains and progressively at ease on the red carpet. That's how we would describe the Tiny Fey, left, who looked oh-so-lovely in a strapless, burgundy Vivienne Westwood gown last night. Our Upper Darby girl sure knows how to clean up well, no?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the fictitious Vice President of HBO's Veep who frequently finds herself  in awkward situations, ditched the tailored business suits for a sultry and sophisticated, custom-designed, bordeaux Vera Wang gown.

Mad Men's January Jones, right, chose the darker route in dressing for the Emmy's. The new mom donned an Oscar-worthy Zac Posen gown in black. We thought the gown itself was a daring, appropriate selection for the noticeably thinner Betty.

Meanwhile, Revenge star Emily VanCamp, left, channeled her on-screen character in a serious, stormy-beige, tulle J Mendel gown. Although we can't quite explain what's going on with her midsection, the overall look and feel of the gown was a classy choice for the Emmys.

Fairy tales are real

Once Upon a Time's Ginnifer Goodwin looked like a modern-day princess in a fiery orange Monique Lhuillier gown. Goodwin paired the detailed, embroidered number with a beautiful pair of matching, cap-toed Louboutins.
