Specter: Recession is Toomey's Fault

Sen. Arlen Specter (R., Pa.) previews line of attack in likely primary battle with conservative leader Pat Toomey on talk radio.

Specter: Recession is Toomey's Fault

Few people know better than Pat Toomey how tough a candidate Sen. Arlen Specter can be, and the incumbent showed it again today as he previewed on talk radio a possible line of attack in their likely rematch in next year's Republican primary.

Asked on WILK's morning show what he thought of Toomey, a former Lehigh Valley congressman who now heads the conservative grassroots organization Club for Growth, Specter delivered a populist uppercut. "Well, he's been totally in favor of deregulation, letting Wall Street run its own affairs, which has been a tremendous factor in bringing us into this current mess," Specter said. "So on the basis of what he did in Congress, I think he's part of the problem."
