Rendell, happiest when Ginger's on her back

Gov. Rendell, a shoot-from-the-hip chief executive if ever there was one, has taken to telling the press that we will miss him when he leaves office in Jan. 2011.

And he reminded us why he's probably right at a morning news conference.

Responding to a variety of questions about the budget and the governor's race, Rendell said he was  "always heartened by any intelligent statement" coming out of Harrisburg.

Then he paused. "In fact," he said, "nothing makes me happier, well, except Ginger rolling over on her back."

Rendell smiled broadly and quickly added: "And, for all those people watching on PCN, Ginger is my Golden Retriever."
