Rendell fans the flames, says Gov. Corbett should talk Sandusky

POSTED: Tuesday, July 17, 2012, 11:02 PM

Gov. Corbett has some explaining to do, according to former Gov. Ed Rendell.

Speaking on a Philadelphia sports talk radio show Monday, the former district attorney-turned-politician questioned why investigators with the state Attorney General’s office, under Corbett’s direction, did not discover the apparently damning emails relating to the Sandusky scandal that were uncovered last week by former FBI director Louis Freeh. Freeh had been hired by Penn State to investigate the university’s handling of the child sexual abuse allegations against Sandusky.

“It’s certainly something the governor should answer,” Rendell said on the Mike Missanelli show on 97.5, The Fanatic.

In fact, Rendell maintained, Corbett should be answering a whole host of questions involving his office’s handling of the Sandusky case, including why the investigation took as long as it did, and why initially there were so little manpower assigned to the case.

“Those are legitimate questions,” said Rendell, adding that Corbett should not get indignant when questioned about the case because “when you run for public office, you have to understand that you are going to be questioned, no matter what you do.”

“It’s different from running your own business, it’s different from running your own law firm,” Rendell added. “When you run for public office, you have the duty to explain.”

For his part, Corbett has said he has answered such questions – over and over again. In fact, the Republican governor got hot piping mad when, in the wake of the Freeh report’s release last week, he was asked whether he believed he should have done anything differently when running the Sandusky investigation.

Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley earlier today chalked up Rendell’s musings to the former governor’s penchant for hearing the sound of his own voice.

“For somebody like Ed Rendell,” said Harley,  “there is no topic outside his realm when he gets to hear the sound of his own voice.”

Harley said Corbett, while Attorney General, took on the Sandusky case when no one else would. And he helped build a case that resulted in Sandusky being found guilty on 45 of 48 counts against him.

Harley said Freeh’s investigation benefited from a spirit of cooperation of the new leadership at the helm of Penn State – former PSU president Graham Spanier resigned last fall in the wake of the scandal, and was prominently named in Freeh’s report as being one of four top university officials who allegedly participated in a cover-up of Sandusky’s crimes.

In its investigation, the Attorney General’s office asked for emails – but didn’t get them.

“If people want to play Monday morning prosecutor, that’s fine,” said Harley. “But you can’t argue with the results. The jury’s verdict is a complete vindication of the thoroughness of the investigation.”

"Fast Eddie" is one to talk... He sat on the PSU Board of directors for 8 years while all of this was going on. Why doesn't anyone ever ask him directly about this?

I guess Corbett believes that as Governor has no responsibility to answer to his constituents, makes Rendell look like a shrinking violet.

Ed Rendell back in 1976 thru 1980 was associated with Philadelphia wealthy politically connected serial pedophile Ed Savitz who also was a fund raiser donor $$$ to the Second Mile foundation and associated with Jerry Sandusky. Second Mile fund raisers became feeding frenzies for wealthy politically connected pedophiles associated with Philadelphia Democrats like Ed Rendell, Vince Fumo and Bob Brady who all looked the other way whiloe Savitz molested thousands of at-risk adolescent boys, some of them were part of the Second Mile program. Pedophile Ed Savitz was arrested in 1992 and criminally charged for various pedophile related offenses. Oddly enough back in 1977 thru 1980 Ed Rendell was Philadelphia District Attorney and took no actions regarding numerous allegations of pedophile related crimes involving his buddy Ed Savitz. Odly enough Rendell became Mayor of Philadelphia back in 1992 while his political freind Ed Savitz was being criminally chaged by newly appointed Philly District Attorney Lynne Abraham. 1993 Ed Savitz comitted suicide while awaiting trial by refusing to take his AIDs medication which caused his death. Afterwards all of the evidence gathered during the Savitz pedophile investigation including evidence that Savitz was associated with Ed Rendell, Bob Brady and others in addition to Savitz's involvment with the Second Mile foundation and Jerry Sandusky was destroyed by order of Police Commissioner Richard Neal who was appointed by Mayor Ed Rendell. My point is that id the evidence would have been acted on back in 1993 Jerry Sandusky would have been arrested back then and the Penn State sex scandal could have been avoided. Wasn't The Pennsylvania Governor the Attorney General during the initial investigation of Sandusky, what ever happen to the detective investigating the Sandusky case? Isn't it rather odd there is a missing investigator from the Attorney General's office connected with this case and there is absolutely nothing relating to his disappearance in all of the reports that have surfaced thus far?

Corbett was too busy looking under tables in Harrisburgh for corrupt Democrats (but not rethugs) to waste time on a little thing like child rape.
dd the fact that Paterno and much of the PSU "family" are GOP icons and fundraisers and the only logical conclusion is that the then-AG covered up for the crimes of his buddies.
Just as everything connected to Paterno should be eliminated from PSU and more people should be prosecuted, Gov. Gasbutt should be impeached and prosecuted for his actions (and inaction) during this atrocity.
But, he is a republic and they are never held to account for their actions.
Rendell was a piece of work himself, but the issue is Corbett, Sandusky, Paterno and PSU.
Just like Corbett sold the people of PA out to the frackers, he betrayed the trust of his position as CHIEF LAW ENFORCER in the state for the sake of political power and donations. He belongs in jail as much as Paterno (too late for that) and Sandusky as an accessory after (and during and before) the facts.

Thanks for the information Cocot50. Corruption and coverups know no political party line.

Cocot50- I vaguelly remember that. Do you think any reporters would investigate the connections between politicians and Sandusky. It's too easy to concentrate on going after Joe Paterno. I would love to see a list of what politicians were on Sandusky's payroll.

People should look into the connection between pedophile Edward Savitz and Jerry Sandusky's SECOND MILE Foundation.
    Here is the real story:

Corbett should be in jail. Paterno is not innocent but Corbett used Joe's well known name as a smoke screen after Sandusky was arrested. Corbett also knows exactly what happened to Ray Gricar. Contrary to the original saying, s-h-i-t does roll UPhill.
