Pennsylvania education secretary Gerald Zahorchak and Philadelphia's regional school superintendent, Lucy Felia are among the finalists for superintendent of the Allentown school district.
The school district said yesterday it will invite the four finalists to the district for further interviews, to tour the schools and meet school board members and community leaders.
Zahorchak has served as a cabinet secretary in the Rendell administration since 2005, overseeing hundreds of millions in new state funding for education. Prior to that, he served as deputy secretary for elementary and secondary education.
Felia has served in her current post since 2007 and before that was deputy chief academic officer. She started her career as a teacher in the Camden School District.
Also being considered are Gerald Kohn, who was until this week superintendent of the Harrisburg school district, and Carlinda Purcell, deputy superintendent for academic services in the St. Louis Public Schools. Kohn, who clashed with the city's new mayor, Linda Thompson, was fired by the Harrisburg School Board.
