Mass Twitter appeal helps Jim Cramer's dad get PA voter ID
What happens when the 90-year-old father of a New York media star gets caught in Pennsylvania's voter ID web? Well, his son turns to Twitter of course.
At 7:30 this morning Jim Cramer, founder of the Street and host of CNBC's "Mad Money" tweets this plea to his followers:
Jim Cramer @jimcramer
I have a problem. My dad, a vet, won't be allowed to vote in Pa. because he does not drive, he is elderly, and can't prove his citizenship
So Cramer does what any social media-savvy person would do, he takes it to his followers on Twitter...all 567,000 of them.
And then...
Sometime before the close of business on Tuesday, Cramer tweets that the problem has been solved:
PennDot read my Tweet and came directly to the rescue of Pop and did so in a terrific way so he can vote.. Thank you Penndot!
Then Cramer thanks Twitter for "making it right."
Hey look, Pop's 90. He went twice to Motor Vehicles by bus. He waited and waited. He could not wait more. But it has been solved. Thanks 2 u

I'm glad that his Dad will maintain his right to vote. It's unfortunate, however, that so many others have lost that right because Republicans believe that they have to cheat to win elections by depressing turnout. It's horrible. comin4ya23- One day I needed to see the Dr, during the process of paying my co-payment, the office girl needed to see my I.D. so as to not defraud my insurance carrier. Since poor ol' Jim Cramers dad was 90, shouldn't he has some sort of I.D., at least for insurance compliance? Stop with the lazyness and get out for free ID's. You people have had 6 months to obtain it, and are still crying about a rule that has been passed. 835union
- Are you saying that all of the elderly and disabled are lazy? The Republicans are cheating. Plain and simple.
Isn't he special. Would PennDOT have been as responsive to a similar request made by someone who does not have the power of the media behind him and a national TV show? I think not. Hank_SJ
So if you're rich and famous, and embarrass PennDot in the national media you get special treatment and are allowed to vote . . . What a pathetic spectacle. Whoever voted for this law should be ashamed. MrSmith
No ID, no votee ppasq
@ Modereater: Would you care to know how many voter fraud cases have been brought by Federal prosecutors over the past 5 years (that includes part of the Bush years, when Republican US Attorneys were fired for not bringing voter fraud cases that they thought were bogus?)
The answer I saw (and no, I haven't verified it) is 80. Assuming tbat 1000 cases went unprosecuted for each one that was, that still gives us a total, for the country, of 80,000 in five years. Many more people than that will be disenfranchised in PA alone this election.
This whole movement is a scam designed to disenfranchise people that its perpetrators think are likely to vote Democratic. You are claiming fraud - prove that it's a real problem.
BTW, guess how many fradulent voters were cast by the whole ACORN situation. 0, since the victim was ACORN, not the public. (Not that ACORN didn't line up to let itself be scammed.) I don't have time to tell the story now- I need to be up early tomorrow - but if you have any interest in fact and truth you might look it up. judas_priest- Can you prove that people will in fact be disenfranchised as well?
And by prove I mean actually prove. Not just say what you think might happen but really show that someone was stopped from casting a vote on November 6, 2012.
Oh, that's right. The election has not actually happened yet so you can't prove that anyone was disenfranchised.
You can guess/hope all you want but until you can show an actual person was stopped from voting because of this law your claims of voter suppression are as hollow and meaningless as Republican claims of voter fraud. barlowjames1
Anybody who can't figure out how , or is too lazy to try to obtain ID to vote - perhaps we are better off with them not voting . What possible understanding of any issue could they possibly have ? Or are stupid lazy people predisposed to vote for one party ? publius sempronius tuditanus
There have been remarkably few reports - and only one proven case - of voter identity fraud since 1980. Hundreds of millions of votes, only 9 alleged cases.
This is a law designed to make it more difficult to vote, that discriminates against the poor and elderly by producing an unnecessary obstacle.
My wife, who does not drive, does not have a current valid ID. That means I will have to get her to a Penndot place and we can sit around and wait in line until she can get a new non-driver ID. Hopefully we will be able to dig up all of the paperwork she needs to do so. I see it as a ridiculous imposition with the only purpose being to make it harder for people to vote. Since most people with this problem live in the city, it is also obvious that this rule is designed to suppress the Democratic vote specifically. ICDogg- You poor thing. The last time I was at Penndot I was in and out within 20 minutes. What a joke. You need an ID to buy cold medicine. Not having some kind of picture ID is just plain irresponsible. Believe me this sham by the democrats that republicans are trying to suppress the vote is ridiculous. The democrats benefit from voter fraud in most elections, the last one being no exception. Obama will win the next one, thanks to the growing culture of laziness and stupidity in this country.

P.s.t. Who are you to decide the reason why a citizen does not have a proper PA voter ID? Signing off in Latin is not a sign of intelligence but rather denotes an assjack suffering from numbskullery. 4poppy
It is remarkably easy to get a state I'd to vote. Cramer's father could easily have gotten a ride to a PennDot location to get one. p.s.t. Is right, you have to be lazy or stupid not to be able to get a state id. Voting is a precious RIGHT we have in this country and it should be protected. You dunderheads who have been hood-winked by the left-wing media into believing that this is a Republican "ploy" to suppress votes need to turn off NBC, "channel 6" and CNN. Obama's recent executive order regarding illegal immigration was not made out of the goodness of his heart( after three years of doing nothing) democrats have a long history of encouraging voter fraud. go to the library and read a history book! If showing your PA Driver's license was good enough for Franklin, Jefferson and Hamilton,it's good enough for me. Sheesh, some people.... red rock
This is serious business. Cramer brings to light the tens of thousands who won't be able to have a Penndot official CALL THEM to solve the problem. The Governor needs to act. Of course he's in the tank for the Teapublicans so thats wishful thinking. So its up to the courts. Hopefully the next judge won't be a racist like the last one. alak0926
