Soon your fingers will do the walking on your keyboard alone. It's the end of the line for the phone book as we know it.
Verizon Pennsylvania Inc. today got the go-ahead to stop regular publishing of the white pages.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission voted unanimously to make the phone books available only by request starting in January. The move will significantly reduce the nearly 12 million paper copies of the directories distributed each year.
The company is billing the plan as an “environmentally-friendly” initiative. Information contained in the “consumer guide pages” and governmental listing (blue) pages of the yellow pages directory will still be distributed to all customers.
