Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Corbett and his allies in the Philadelphia region have been working hard to undermine support for Democratic candidate Dan Onorato among groups that traditionally lean toward Democrats, including African American voters.
Corbett, on Saturday morning, expects to pick up an endorsement from the Pentecostal Clergy Political Awareness Committee, a group that represents 60 or more largely black churches in the city. Later, Corbett will be endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Housing Police, also a largely black group.
Word of the endorsements comes from Philadelphia attorney David Oh, a former Republican candidate for City Council, who worked with both groups to set up the endorsements.
Oh said that the pentecostal group, led by Bishop Leonard Goins, pastor of Chestnut Hill Church of God in Christ, will endorse Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Joe Sestak in an event Saturday following its endorsement of Corbett.
Bob Asher, co-chairman of Corbett's gubernatorial campaign committee, said that GOP efforts are under way on many fronts to gain support for Corbett among Philadelphia Democrats, including lawyers who may also be giving to Onorato.
A new Rasmussen poll shows Corbett leading in the race by 10 percentage points.
"Yes, it's true that we are reaching out in urban areas ... we are having some truly encouraging success," Asher said.
While I don't agree one bit with the endorsement, I do applaud Bishop Goins for doing his research, and not just knee-jerk endorsing the Democratic candidate. Oronzadelphia

I hope these individual are ready to give up their Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid and don't forget you get NO healthcare under these crazies. They should also be ready to give up some of their constitutional rights. Oh and don't forget the profiling by this guy. mark carr- Mark Carr, you do not HAVE a constitutional right to health care, medicare, medicaid, or social security! That's the problem - all the deadbeats standing around with their hands out, like they deserve it for free while the rest of us WORK for it! Do it the old-fashioned way like I did, and GET A JOB!

Thank you, Obama Remorse - my point exactly. gone with the wind
215cookin, you're an idiot. Do you need a Constitutional right to but health care or retirement benefits. Take a look at your next pay stub. The "deadbeats" that receive these benefits are paying for them through payroll deductions. While Republicans are claiming they are suddenly for a balanced budget, they have no issue with the fact that the US pays 40% more for health care than any other country on the planet and our quality of care ranks nowhere near the top. These insurance industry executives who are collecting these multi-million dollar salaries have benn put on notice. The party is over. There IS NO MORE MONEY TO PAY FOR YOUR LAVISH LIFESTYLE. You're going to actually need to earn your salary instead of fleecing the american public for overpriced, lousy insurance. Get these insurance companies from between you and your doctor! It's time for smaller companies. Cut the fat! Reform is on the way. That's hope we can believe in!!! MikeP- Hey MikeP you really dont believe that the gov getting involved with health insurance is going to make it cheaper do you? Look at all the programs now that they run, they are all having money problems. skills
- Let's not forget that Corbett used his office for political gain by prosecuting his political enemies for using their offices for political gain. Only went after Dems and Reps that crossed him. It took local authorities to get Orie because Corbett looked the other way.
Perfect example of his use of taxpayer money to campaign -- folks who were surrendering voluntarily when they were arrested were forced to go to a local police station in Harrisburg for processing prior to arraignment, which is hardly ever the order that goes when a defendant turns themself in. Why did he do it? So he could put them in handcuffs and have AG office agents drive them to the court and escort them in for a perp walk for TV cameras. All those agents could have been somewhere fighting crime. Instead, they were taxpayer funded campaign props.
This guy is so crooked he screws his pants on in the morning (and that comment will probably get me investigated because Corbett in the past has used his office to go after people who blogged or tweeted critical comments about him)
All of the housing in Philadelphia has been torn down how many police are there. There are no republicans in philadelphia that I know of and this guy corbett has voted to take health care away from children. He has the Absent Tea party behind him all over the state of pa. The absent Tea party has signs saying God Hates Taxes, but there all non-profits, go figure non-profits pay no real-estate taxes and usually are a front.
atomic clock
Corbett is a failure as AG and needs his walking papers. My name is Thomas Baker a retired U.S. Navy vet. I am running a write in campaign for Governor of Pa. My father spent 40 years in the union as a blue collar worker, and installed family, country. and helping others is what gives life it's meaning. When you elect me, you will not have a bought politician, but someone who wants to bring prosperity back, to our state! write in vote for Thomas Baker for Governor ThomasBaker
Inky headline writes need to go to "don't slant headlines so much that it's obvious" school. MaggieL
Gets--how do you think the Democratic party has held onto Philadelphia for so long--Sunday School Picnics?
Sound---you calling the kettle black? I've lived in Philly all my life and all I've ever seen from the Democrats is corruption from the get -go--payoffs for this one, graft from that one, pay to play, bribes, discrimination, gerrymandering of councilmanic districts to keep monorities in power etc., etc., etc.;not to mention a racist now running the pubic school system whose contempt for Caucasian or Asian children and tax payers is monumental. crystalrainbowspirit1- DEMOCRATS FOR CORBETT - the idea is simple: take Ono"RAT"o's money and push for Corbett! It's payback time Philadelphia~~~~he screwed Saidel and backstabbed him for his other half of the Ambiguously Gay Duo (Scotty Cocklin) a junk salesman from Central PA who sells overpriced JUNK to unsuspecting tourists and inbreds. He is a Remdellian and that means that you only benefit if you are from Ballard Spahr aka- the safety deposit box of John "the puke" Estey.
Right on point there Kirk Penn 2010. It is clear that you are getting a good education at Penn. Ono"rat"o (I like that) is a Rendell inspired candidate, designed to keep the trough of Ballard Spahr filled with taxpayers' money. And I did not like what he and others did to Saidel in the primary, and that means our local drunk state rep. Mike O'Brian, who is so ugly, that he had to get elected to have an affair. Go Corbett!!! OldSchoolG
Why is Corbett being allowed to use the job he's repeatedly failed at to get the job he's not qualified for? It looks like this "Bonus Gate" affair and the pace of it's prosecution are being timed to help get Corbett free press for his election bid for Governor. We're paying for him and his staff to run for Governor...and then if he fails, he's still drawing a pay check, etc as a lame State's Attorney General! Why are we and our legislature letting him to get away with that? What about the Parole Board Corruption he's been told about, with evidence, for years now? What about the "Rendell Murders"? What about his repeated betrayal of public trust? Corbett was repeatedly told, in writing, with evidence, about Parole Board Corruption to include inappropriate... quit possibly criminal... and repeated sexual contacts between State Parole Agents and Offenders and their families! To include a District Director, who has a child now from an Offender's wife while hubby was on his caseload! Also shaking down Parolees for money, selling urine passes, pocketing supervision fees, routine misuse of State Vehicles to the tune of many thousands of tax dollars. Who investigates the Attorney General? Who does he answer to... by his own repeated lack of action... it's not the good, decent families of Pennsylvania! Why isn't the U.S. Attorney General (Eric Holder) or Zane Memeger (his man in Philadelphia) investigating Tom (CORRUPT) Corbett!? John Law
John Law, if what you are saying is true, why have these items not been investigated? I am sure that if the charges were true and involving a Republican the Inqy and Daily Snooze would be all over it. junethe4th
