(A brief discussion twixt Baer & Baer's editor, a.k.a BE)
JB: See that list of Eddie's last grants?
BE: You mean the controverisal borrowed billion?
JB: Well, it got cut down, but yeah. You can read the whole list in today's Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. They got it through a right-to-know request.
BE: Fun stuff?
JB: For some.
BE: Gimme the highlights.
JB: $488 worth of projects, a-third of them in Philly because, you know, that's how it works.
BE: And elsewhere?
JB: His Edness proves his love of sports with $20 million to re-do a Lackawanna County baseball stadium for the New York Yankees Triple-A farm team.
BE: Wait, I thought he was a White Sox fan?
JB: He is. They'll love this in Chi-town.
BE: What else?
JB: How about $1 million for a Bensalem Township golf course or half a-mill for a Butler County baseball academy?
BE: Your tax dollars at work. I wish he'd use some for high-speed rail.
JB: Don't you have enough train calendars? Then there's $2 million for the Franklin Mint.
BE: Geez. Can't they print their own?
JB: You'd think. There's also a $1 million for the Pittsburgh Symphony at Heinz Hall. Guess the Heinz Family's running low.
BE: Don't tell John Kerry.
JB:There's $7 million for a private Catholic college, St. Francis University in Loretto, east of Pittsburgh.
BE: Praise God.
JB: Oh, and there's $3 million for the William Way Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center in Philly.
BE: Hey, that's been around forever. Does good work.
JB: And bound to be popular with groups such as Pennsylvania for Marriage.
BE: Well, at least, the total got cut down. Didn't your boy Jack Wagner, the auditor general, not the soaps actor, have a hand in reducing the load?
JB: He did. And before I go, I need to correct something from yesterday's blog. I wrote that state Rep. Chelsa Wagner is Jack's daughter. She's not. She's his neice. Stupid mistake on my part. But partly YOUR fault for making me blog in the morning.
BE: Well, we can never find you after the bars open.
JB: Fair point.
