No solar panels yet atop Obama White House

The deadline is here -- the beginning summer, the time when Obama said solar panels would be installed on the White House -- and still no panels.

Bill McKibben's site, www.350.org -- the 350 being the parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere he wants to aim for -- reports that the "roof is stil bare." McKibben had pushed for the panels, to the point of bringing one of the old Jimmy Carter-installed panels to D.C. as a point-maker.

Now, McKibben says in an interview with AP: "On the list of things that get done, this isn't all that hard. It doesn't require SEAL Team 6. It just requires a good-faith effort."

Meanwhile, the Department of Energy notes in a blog post that it "remains on the path to complete the White House solar demonstration project, in keeping with our commitment, and we look forward to sharing more information -- including additional details on the timing of this project -- after the competitive procurement process is completed."

Sounds to me like a lawyered-up way of saying one simple thing: Oops.
