Sheftic in leadoff spot for U.S. PGA Cup team


Merion Golf Club teaching pro Mark Sheftic will be part of Friday's first match in the opening round of the PGA Cup at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif.

Sheftic, 37, of Blue Bell, will team with David Hutsell of Baltimore in a four-ball (better-ball) match against the Britain and Ireland team of Simon Edwards and David Shacklady. The match, the first of four in the round, tees off at 10:30 a.m. Philadelphia time.

Hutsell won the 2011 PGA Professional National Championship last June when it was played at Hershey Country Club.

The 25th PGA Cup, which matches club professionals from the United States and Britain and Ireland, continues through Sunday. Follow the progress of the matches at
