Food Diaries: Noelle Zane of Pure Barre

As the owner of Pure Barre Philadelphia, Noelle Zane knows there are two parts to every weight loss puzzle. Hitting the barre, of course, is a main component — but even more important is proper nutrition.

As the owner of Pure Barre Philadelphia, Noelle Zane knows there are two parts to every weight loss puzzle. Hitting the barre, of course, is a main component — but even more important is proper nutrition.

"Diet goes hand in hand with exercise. Your body is a machine and you need to fuel it in order for it to run at its maximum potential," said Zane. "For my job, it's important to maintain a healthy weight and maximize my energy levels."

To do that, Zane follows a diet that she describes as organic, local, and seasonal.

"I aim for foods high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, I so eat lots of fresh organic produce, protein, and healthy fats," said Zane. "I avoid processed foods and supplement my diet with superfoods to enhance my health."

Yet, some of Zane's superfood staples aren't exactly run of the mill. Wheatgrass, maca powder, gogi, noni — Zane's diet sounds almost like a crazy science experiment, but there's a method to the madness.

"I'm constantly running back and forth between three studios and that means I don't have time to get sick," aid Zane. "Eating the proper foods helps me stay healthy."

Many of Zane's daily rituals, like her morning Gogi and Noni shots and afternoon wheatgrass shots, are proven immune boosters.

"Healthy eating benefits your overall well-being, not just your physical health." said Zane. "It helps you sleep better, improves your mental capacity and reduces stress, so really, it's a win-win!"

Below, in her own words, Zane shares her typical day of healthy eating:

Morning: Hot water with lemon, a shot of Tahitian Noni and Goji juices.

"I like to start my day off with hot water and lemon to cleanse and stimulate the digestive system. I'll have a shot of Tahitian Noni and Goji juices, which are organic and all-natural with no added ingredients. The Noni isn't too pleasant but I'll usually mix the two for a better taste. They are high in antioxidants, great for your skin, help boost your immune system."

Breakfast: Hard boiled egg, a few slices of avocado, a banana, and an Americano Misto with almond milk and cinnamon (preferably from Joe Coffee!).

Midday snack: 3 shots of wheatgrass and an Animo Juice "MD" smoothie.

"I'm addicted to wheatgrass. It's a total energy and immune boost, which is something I strive for daily."

"My smoothies vary daily but I do this one from Animo Juice often: Carrot and beet juice, kiwi, fresh organic greens, spirulina, banana and adding to it turmeric, flaxseed, maca powder and soy protein powder.

I'm all about superfoods, and this smoothie is full of them; maca powder for energy, spiced tumeric helps with inflammation, I could go on and on."

Midday snack #2: Yogurt with nuts and fruit.

"Today, I snacked on a goat's milk plain organic yogurt with raw walnuts and figs with a cold pressed juice of cucumber, kale, celery, lemon, lime, and ginger.

I have to eat little bites throughout the day. If I don't, my body won't have enough time to properly digest the food I'll feel lethargic."

Dinner: Grilled salmon with sautéed spinach and quinoa.

"I sautéed the spinach in olive oil. It's really important to monitor you fat intake, even if it's healthy fats.

If I have wine during the week, I'll limit myself to one glass (if that) and it will be an organic pinot noir, which is high in antioxidants and benefits your cardiovascular system."

Dessert: Slices of organic apple with cinnamon.

"I also like to whip up my healthy version of hot chocolate: Warmed almond or hazelnut milk with cacoa powder and a touch of stevia!"

Before bed: Tea.

"I'll drink a cup of green tea before bed or, if I'm feeling the need to detox, I'll have a cup of dandelion root tea with honey."
