Former West Deptford mayor to challenge his successor

Ray Chintall will seek to regain his seat on Township Committee.

West Deptford's former Republican mayor, Ray Chintall, will challenge current Democratic Mayor Denice DiCarlo for her Township Committee seat this year.

The West Deptford Republican Club announced on Wednesday Chintall would replace the party's previous candidate, Jamie Padulese, after she stepped aside for "family obligations."

"I have a little left in my tank to run again," Chintall, a retired state trooper, said in an interview.

Chintall's 2011 win alongside Sam Cianfarini pushed the committee to a Republican majority after years of Democratic dominance; Cianfarini later stepped down from the governing body. That Republican control was lost last year when Chintall and Committeeman John Keuler Jr. lost their seats to Democrats Adam Reid and James Mehaffey.

With the votes of the two new Democrats on the five-member committee, DiCarlo was elected to the mayor's seat this year.
