The subscription radio service was fast to launch the "Whitney Houston Tribute Channel" last Sunday, less than 24 hours after the pop diva's demise.
Now today at noon, SiriusXM - and its twenty million subscribers - will have audio access to the singer's otherwise closed funeral.
Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder will be among the mourners in attendence at Newark, New Jersey's New Hope Baptist Church and are scheduled to sing praises to Houston, along with the temple's legendary choir. Ms. Houston started her singing career in the New Hope's juni choir, then under the direction of her mom Cissy (more famous for her leadership role in the Sweet Inspirations, which backed Elvis Presley.) Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick also came out of the choir.
The live broadcast will be carried on SiriusXM's Heart & Soul channel (48) - of late the all-Houston music outlet and also the one that sadly served as a Michael Jackson memorial channel. Following the service, the station will feature a special tribute with music and calls from listeners (dialing in at 866-478-6262). Not a subscriber? You can sneak past the velvet ropes by signing up for a free trial of the online SiriusXM service (available on PCs, tablets and smartphones) at www.siriusxm.com. Heart & Soul also is carried on the DISH satellite TV service at channel 6051.
