Turnout light for NJ Primary election

Turnout is exceptionally light for today's primary election in New Jersey where the race for the Republican nomination for governor is the headline contest.

The polls will be open until 8 p.m.

The front runners in the GOP gubernatorial race are Christopher J. Christie, a former U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, and Steve Lonegan, former mayor of Bogota in Bergen County. The winner is expected to challenge  Gov. Jon Corzine  in November's General Election. Corzine has three challengers in the primary, but they do not pose a serious threat.

Voters also are casting ballots in party primaries for candidates in all 80 state Assembly seats as well as county races, including GOP freeholder nominees in Gloucester and Camden counties.

There are Democratic primaries for mayoralties in Camden and Atlantic City as well.

Visits to polling place in Camden in other parts of South Jersey found few voters were coming out to cast ballots in the primary.
