Wild weather hits region

Part of Montgomery County was hit with afternoon hail as severe storms – including possible tornados - struck the Poconos and Northern Jersey, officials said.

The National Weather Service was investigating a possible tornado touch-down in the Poconos, according to Jim Poirier, a meteorologist in the Mount Holly office.

He said the weather service had reviewed a video and dispatched a meteorologist to the scene. "It looks like a tornado from what we saw," Poirier said.

A second tornado sighting was reported by a trained observer in Sussex County, N.J., he said.

The storms were touched off by a weak front moving through the soupy air mass that has lingered over the region.

Hail was reported in the Valley Forge area shortly after 12 p.m. and also in some parts of New Jersey.
