Inquirer staff writer Dwight Ott reports:

Seven people were injured in a seven-car collision on Route 73 in Marlton near the intersection with Route 70, police said.

The victims were taken to area hospitals, including Cooper University Medical Center in Camden and Virtua Cherry Hill, according to Evesham police Capt. Jeff Gural.

"None of the injuries were life threatening," he said.

The accidents, which happened around 7 a.m., tied up traffic for more than two hours.

According to Gural, the series of crashes began when a northbound car on Route 73 struck another northbound vehicle, sending one of the cars into southbound lanes, leading to several accidents.

The accident was still under investigation, he said.

it's been reported that the accident may have been caused by two PA drivers confused about how to get back to PA from the shore. Apparently the bread crumbs they dropped out the window on Friday were hard to follow

Mayor Randy Brown, thanks for pushing through the RT 70 overpass project and ruining peoples lives for the next 2 years. By the way this project will do nothing to solve the traffic back-up at Evesham Rd and RT 73. Once you get past RT 70 going south be prepared to sit in traffic for another 10 minutes as you approach Evesham Rd. This happens everyday.

Drew, by your logic, they shouldn't fix one problem because there's another one? You're an idiot. The circle is a disaster and should have been replaced years ago. Good riddance to that traffic nightmare. You must be part of the group that drew up their ridiculous plans for the circle using MS Paint.

Progress and change are difficult......and finally a solution is at hand...yes it is inconvenient.....and unforunatley self appointed experts think they know more than the traffic experts and studies done by the state....but of course they are so much smarter than those experts ??? yeah right........and they finally realized that the community had no interest in supporting their very late lame efforts.......

As much as I'd love to complain about the circle redesign, this accident had nothing to do with traffic. My father was a responder on the scene. The man in the pick-up truck had a medical condition of some sort (he's being checked out at the hospital, along with 6 others) and apparently lost control at the circle heading N on Rte 73. It was just a chain reaction after that, several cars hitting each other, then one jumping the grass median and hitting on-coming traffic. They are lucky no one died. Now- Drew is right. The overpass is a disaster. 70 and 73 were never meant to handle the traffic they have: people commuting to Philly from Medford, and PA people driving to the Shore. 70 was just one lane in each direction, surrounded by orchards, as recently as 30 years ago. An overpass won't fix any of that. 70 should have been sunk under 73, like the Vine St Expressway. IMO.
