New Jersey animal welfare officials are investigating the death of an explosives-detecting dog assigned to the Mount Holly Police Department.

The dog, Patton, died Tuesday, though its cause of death is unclear.

Matt Stanton, spokesman for the New Jersey SPCA, confirmed that the dog’s death is under active investigation, but would provide no further details.
