Report: Gay cop settles suit for $415,000

 Inquirer staff report:

The City of Millville reportedly has paid $415,000 to settle a federal lawsuit by a former police officer who had charged he was harassed because he is gay.

Robert Colle's attorney Arthur J. Murray said under the agreement reached in May, his client resigned from the South Jersey police force  and none of the officers named in the suit was required to admit any wrongdoing, the Press of Atlantic City reports.

Colle, of Egg Harbor Township, had been on leave since August, 2007.

In the lawsuit filed in October 2007, Colle claimed he was subjected to ridicule from other officers, the newspaper said. He also alleged that police officers refused to back him up on a call involving a disorderly woman who bit his finger to the bone.
