Firefighter owns nuisance bar where cop was wounded

A firefighter owns the bar outside of which Police Officer Ashley Hoggard was wounded over the weekend in a flurry of gunfire.

Inquirer staff report:

A firefighter owns the bar outside of which Police Officer Ashley Hoggard was wounded over the weekend in a flurry of gunfire, records show.

Officials have closed down the tavern, Franchise Sports Bar & Grille at Broad and Somerset Streets, and police said they were disturbed to see a video showing weapons being handed out from a trash bag inside the bar after Hoggard, 26, was shot early Sunday morning. Three other people also were wounded under circumstances still being investigated by police.

Records list Eugene Coulter Jr. as the bar owner. City payroll records also list Coulter as a firefighter.

6ABC TV quotes Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers as saying Coulter has been a firefighter for three years.

Attempts to reach Coulter yesterday were unsuccessful.
