Firefighters have controlled a fire in the rear car of a SEPTA R-5 train in West Philadelphia.
Aerial images broadcast by Fox29 earlier showed smoke and flames pouring out of the car on tracks near 52nd and Lancaster Avenue.
The Fire Department declared the fire under control about 7:40 a.m.
Officials says all passengers have been evacuated safely. SEPTA is trying to arrange buses to take the stranded passengers into Center City.
Service has been suspended on the R-5 and R-6 lines.

It is actually an R7 Chestnut Hill East train.
But who's keeping track of accurate journalism anymore.
It's actually an R5 train, confirmed several times by SEPTA. The Chestnut Hill East line runs nowhere near 52d & Lancaster.
Better investigate those thug Union members on this one.
Initial reports say the fire was caused by leaves on the tracks.
I was thinking the same thing - aNutter..
who is driving the buses?
It certainly does seem quite coincidental that this fire happened while Septa is on strike. Interestingly, I've yet to see or hear anybody in the media mention this.

F****** Septa get back to work you losers
Oops sorry it is R5. Two sources originally said it was an R7 but apparently it was just labeled that while acting as an R5.
Septa is stopping Victory Buses from getting to the station to help move commuters and I think that is the reason the 101 and 102 are stopped.
A complete coincidence to the strike, I'm sure. Our lovely union gutter thugs would never resort to such vandalism.
